dorado beach resort & golf club

I have played here a number of times on golf trips to Puerto Rico. This time our fivesome played the Pineapple and Sugarcane courses 54 holes over two days. Staff is great and let us play as a fivesome. Nice clubhouse. We did not stay at the resort but was is a short drive from our hotel in Dorado.

Overall, this hotel is somewhat run down. Beach was dirty and sand was overrun by sea weeds. Only one restaurant for lunch and even though they were supposed to open at 11:00 a.m., you couldn't order until 11:30 and the food took forever. Servicewaslousyand unfriendly staff. The rooms air conditioner was not working properly and could not go higher than 67 degree. Room was on need of repair. Not worth the money we spent.

From the Wifi in the shuttle buses to the easy connectivity in the suites, the resort is a perfect business stay. Food and facilities top grade, the sea and views second to none. You can get lost in the grounds when it's dark, had to be rescued twice! (My fault).

Driving in, the clubhouse is jaw dropping. The course itself (pineapple) - front 9 were in great shape. Back 9 was wet and a little muddy (I know it had rained some, but the front 9 seemed to have better drainage). Some of the holes on the entire course were quite a ways away from each other. A beautiful, challenging course. Those cucumber ice water soaked towels they give you after you finish are perfect after a steaming 18!

Staff and clubhouse were to die for. If I lived here I would join this club in a minute! The course is challenging playing on the Bermuda grass but her that's golf. They really went out of their way to make the wife and i feel welcome.

While staying at the Hyatt in dorado beach we received a discount playing golf at the dorado beach golf club. We played the Pineapple course. We didn't bring our clubs and had to rent a set from the pro shop.they gave us a set of titliest. On a scale of one to 10 the condition was a 7. They also included a Scotty Cameron putter. The rental cost was 75 dollars each. Cart was 56 dollars and our discounted green fees were 130 dollars each. They threw in 6 prov1x. The total cost for the two of us was 440 dollars. The best thing with the golf courses (they have 2) is the Staff. You won't find any better. They are very polite and go out of their way to make things pleasantThe driving range is free and they use titliest golf balls for their range balls (very nice)The couse itself was in ok shape. The greens were in good shape and medium speed. No ball marks on the green. The bunkers were terrible. Full of rocks and not small rocks. The bunkers had water in them and we have been here for. 5 days and it hasn't rained a drop. The rough is a bit high and diffult to find a ball. The rough has holes that could ruin your day if you drive or walk in it. Be careful. The car path are in horrible shape. Missing concert and big holes. Be careful there as well. The couse wraps around the old Hyatt which is now owned by marriott. Marriott purchased it a few years ago. A few golf holes run along the marriott. It is a terrible eye sore. The property is useless. A real shame because one on the holes is a beautiful par three overlooking the ocean right next to that old hotel The golf course has a special rate of 65 dollars after 2:45. That is the way to play. To be honest at one time the golf course was a world class course. But the years have caught up to its charm. It is in need of repair and updating. They really should not charge more than 65 dollars at anytime if the day. As I mentioned earlier the staff are very good.

I played the signature East Course during my stay at the Ritz Carlton and found it to be quite nice. It's not quite a 5-star course, but it's very nice - mostly due to the ocean views and lovely vegetation. The greens were slower than what I'm used to, but the locals claimed that was due to the amount of rain they received a couple of days earlier.The cost for a twosome was about $500 which included a cart, and $80 for a caddie who drove his own cart and pretty much misread putts, distances, and stood in my line on most of my putts. In fact, we walked up to the second hole, a 172 yd par three, where the caddie proceeded to laser the distance and proclaimed it was "352 yards" to the flag. Obviously he had the laser locked in to a tree 180 yards behind the green! So I asked him, "isn't this a par three?" He had to look at his yardage book to confirm that, yes, in fact it was a par three! I'm not making this up - he continued misreading yardages on almost every hole - often off by over 100 yards!! I asked the guy how long he'd been working at the course, and he said 3 years - I guess he's still learning. In addition to the $80 caddie fee, you are expected to tip an extra $25 per bag for this service.The course was quite empty on the days I played - mid-week in October, so it took us about 3 hours to play the round which was quite nice. I'd recommend the 3pm twilight rate - we barely got in 18, but it was about half the price of our previous round, so well worth it.Overall, the course was very nice, but overpriced and I prefer not to be forced to take a caddie.

Wasn't too challenging...although the wind made up for that. Course was in very good condition. We played after 3pm which gave us the twilight price of $60 but a regular round would have cost us $130 or something. Add to that rentals, which were $75 for each set, it was one of the most expensive things we did in Dorado. I wouldn't go as far as saying it wasn't worth it, though.

This resort is well protected and safe. Don't worry about anything. There is a safe in each room as well and this place rocks!

West course is closed due to major development/construction. The place is huge and gorgeous, but is really expensive. Just make sure you know the final price including everything before you make your decision (club rental, balls, mandatory caddy for East course, etc), but since we were well informed we knew what we were in for. The East course is truly beautiful, and by going for the replay on one of the plantation courses, you can perhaps begin to justify the price.

We played the Dorado Beach Plantation course and for the money it was not worth it. Greens fees were $150 which i would say were about $100 overpriced. Nothing special about this course at all. Pretty straight forward. The most challenging thing about it is the wind. The condition of the course was average. Drink cart girl and ranger didn't have one personality between the two of them. Played on a Sunday and was not that busy. Felt like playing an older public course in Florida.

Played both the Pineapple and Plantation courses and really had a wonderful time. You should make every effort to book your tee time in the afternoon to get a reduced rate - otherwise it is a bit expensive to play. The club house, resort, and surroundings are really beautiful. There was one hole that faced the ocean that was absolutely spectacular!

Don't want to read my review - here's the skinny: A picturesque golf course (we played the East course) that is expensive if you play before 3pm. Average difficulty level. Would recommend.Review:We rented a car and drove to this golf course from San Juan - about a 45 minute drive. upon entering, you notice the golf course it set on a very unique resort. The buildings are beautiful, spread out and surrounded by palm trees, fauna and ocean beach! We made a 3:00 tee time for the East course. The green's fees after 3:00pm were $105/person. Quite a discount from the $255/person had we played just five minutes earlier! We also had to rent clubs at $77/person. The greens fees included a cart, however after we paid we were introduced to our caddy... we asked for a caddy? No! He was just supplied to us - for a fee of $80 (20/person) of course. We are unsure if this was a requirement or something that was just tacked on for us as a group of tourist. If you go, ASK before you pay. There are hidden fees. The caddy did not speak too much English (I speak Spanish but he did not seem to want to speak much to me in any language!) and drove his own cart around the whole time so we were a bit unsure of his purpose. He helped look for balls and carried putters to the green but overall, he was completely unnecessary. The only good thing was he knew how to get to and from the East course which was at least a 5 minute drive in the golf course from the pro shop. Considering we had to stop playing after 16 holes due to darkness, it was nice to have him show us the way!The club rental were a set of Titleist clubs. They have a "tour" blade and are not entirely forgiving (our scores were terrible!) but a nice set, nonetheless. With the rental we were also given a box each of Titleist ProV1x golf balls (obviously this is build into the rental price... I wish there would have been an opt-out option to drop the price of the rental as I brought my own balls anyway).The course itself was beautiful. The first few holes run along the coast so the view alone is incredible. The rest of the course was well-kept and scenic. Back home I usually average around somewhere in the mid to low 90s. Here I probably would have shot well over 105 had we been able to finish. This was due much in part to the rental clubs (and my having not played since last summer!), in my opinion, as the course was not overly challenging. That is not to say that it is at all easy - it is not. There was just never any hole that we felt intimated by. It is an average golf course in terms of challenge. Would I go back? Probably but I might check out another first for comparison

Notwithstanding seeing Chi Chi (who spent 20 minutes with us telling jokes), this was an awesome facility. 4-18 hole championship courses of which the East Course is the gem. It's not inexpensive, but for a vacation treat, well worth it. On top of the course being very picturesque and in great shape, the food and staff were very good as well. I highly recommend asking for Favio Alvarado as a caddy. He was extremely helpful, fun and made the round that much more enjoyable for me and the rest of our fore some.
