We spend several days snorkeling in the park. It's one of the best places for short-based snorkeling we've found. The reef is in shallow water and the corals are in excellent condition. Our favorite spots were Andrea I, Andrea II and Tori's Reef. Karpata has great corals but is a little hard to get in and out of. Witches Brew had too much sand being kicked up by the waves. Make sure you take good beach shoes because there is next to no sand on the island. The challenge is typically getting in and out without slipping on submerged rocks, but once in it's worth it. We saw no rays or crustaceans, but many, many varieties of fish and a few eels. The sites are not crowded (no one will kick you in the head while snorkeling). Highly recommended.
due to bad weather park was partly closed. dont forget to take your tag(medaillon) and id to get passed the entrance
Plan on a full day to explore this park! It is worth it. Cactus, iguana, birds, lizards, beautiful views of the ocean!
The many diving sites in bonaire are all part of the Bonaire National Marine Park. The reefs are in amazing condition and fishes are everywhere. This is a 10 out of 10.
Aha! The one-way road has tricked another tourist! A lovely tour of Rincon to follow. We had been warned of theft, but never did encounter any problems. Really, we didn't encounter anyone! We felt we had the entire park to ourselves all day. Wonderful! The park is stunning. Desert beauty, cactus and "tourist trees", iguanas hanging around in trees, flamingos in the lakes, the most beautiful lizards imaginable. Add yellow birds singing and take in the views...you'll want to stay forever. Diving was much clearer up north than we had seen down south. Turtles, amazing coral formations, The beach entries were a bit more difficult than the south, with rougher waves, but well worth it. Suggestions: 1. Pack snacks and a lunch (we froze sandwiches, parked under a tree and ate during our surface interval which was enough time to thaw). 2. Pack water. Freeze it before you go.3. There are trees! Shade trees! Perfect for surface intervals.4. Watch your entry/exit and be careful - it's a long way to any populated areas.5. Bring your camera, the clearer water is excellent photo/video with limited backscatter.6. Bring a map and dive guide.
This is a full day trip. tour the Cactus forest, see the fantastic coast line, and dive at least 2 sites. beware the road is a one way loop, so you cant turn around. deserted beaches.
The national park had some nice diving, saw a few turtles, lots of lizards. It was a bit of a rush to make it out by 4:30 when they closed so go early.
I never had a bad dive in the park. Besides the boat dives there are some many beach dives that it could take several trips to do them all. The night diving is tricky, but fun.
We were primarily in Bonaire to Kitesurf but were tired in the afternoons and snorkeling was a relaxing afternoon trip - but go north of Kralendijk - not south for the best fish.
Almost the entire west coast of Bonaire is the marine park, with Crystal clear waters and protected areas for scuba and snorkeling.
although the corals are not as colourful as those in the red sea or in the maldives, there is a wide variety of sea life , in particular with a lot of sea turtles...moray eels, sea lions ...trunkfishes ...
For those who are comfortable doing self-guided diving you can't beat the shore diving in Bonaire. For those who want guides and/or boat diving, the costs are reasonable vs. other Caribbean islands.
