For those who love conservation and nature, Karura forest combine the two. It is a place where your mind can be attached to nature. A mile away from the capital city. For me it is one of the gift given to us by Dr. Wangari Mathai. The place is cool and having guided many private and group tours there, clients response has be great.
A place full of lush green trees and definitely meant to relax you and thrown you into the wild away from the hustles of the city. Good place for cycling and with the waterfall, a nice place to relax and calm down.
Went for a walk with my brother. A great place to walk with people or alone. You can also run or cycle. There is a bicycle shop at the entrance to rent a bicycle. It costs 500kes to rent a mountain bike for about 2 hours. It costs 200 to enter with your car and 100 per person. You have the option of leaving your car at the entrance or driving up to the carpark.
This is the most wonderful place to walk, run or cycle around. We go regularly with our bikes and do about 10km on the most beautiful tracks through the forest. It's very safe (a real haven in Nairobi) and not a difficult terrain. I thoroughly recommend it.
Great place for long walks . Butterfly lake and some other attractions are there during peak season .(pls chk before going )
We go regularly to this forest for weekend and midweek hikes. The trails are beautiful, mostly tree lined, low-grade inclines and well marked. It's a great place for mountain biking as well.
Thanks for the four stars. Sorry you found the non-resident entry fee a bit high. The Friends of Karura Forest and the Kenya Forest Service feel that an entry fee of KES 600 for non-residents, about the price of a grande latte in Georgetown, is not exorbitant. Moreover, the forest really needs the gate receipts to maintain security and infrastructure. Hope you'll come again.
This place has some of the best running, jogging and biking trails i have ever seen. I did a couple of runs here and i always long for some more
The quiet of the forest, varieties of trees and other flora, streams and waterfalls. The forest is vast and has a variety of walks and cycle paths. A very pleasant place to wander, get close to nature and get exercise at the same time.
Just taking a walk, bike riding, the caves, water falls,oooohhh..... You will have a nice time. At a very affordable entry fee.
My first great adventure with my beloved!!!It is a great place you can't go wrong!!Entry fee is 50 shillings and there is a long foot trail to the caves and waterfalls. You can also hire a bicyle for 500 shillings for an hour but they let us keep it for a longer period which was very great. The water fall place is great and a good place to take photos. They don't sell food so carry your own, they also do not sell water so carry your own too!But a great place!
After our first visit to Karura Forest and being struck by the beauty and tranquility of this amazing space in the middle of the city - we are hooked and will go there time and again to escape the chaos of living in such a vibrant but busy city
Went there with my family on an afternoon walk and for sure they really enjoyed themselves until it started drizzling. This ended the lovely evening at Karura .....
Karura Forest has a few entrances and each part has its own merits. The whole forest is fenced and patrolled by rangers, so its safe for walkers, joggers, cyclists etc. Its lovely, to see people enjoying life, to the full. There is a small charge for entrance.
Karura is a gift to those who can get themselves there. My only complaint is that the trail signs are often a little confusing to read with the map for those who do not know their way around. Trace your steps and bring your mobile phone with you. Bring water and snacks too, I didn't see any places to get these in the forest. There are toilets at most of the gates. Enjoy!
