There seem to be reviews of a few different beaches here. I consider this the "in town" beach as it is very close to Nouakchott. Yes, you'll still drive through areas with camels grazing but no checkpoints. There is a restaurant with great sandwiches and chips here and the proprietor does usually have home-brewed beverages here. However, you'll pay for it! As typical here, it is a sand beach. The water is clean and surprisingly warm! The waves are a bit rough, though. I generally find that it is clean and well-kept. I say generally as I went yesterday and it seems that some renovations are going on after the last storm (which caused some damage). I look forward to returning after the renovations are complete.
Amazing walk along the beach among 300 decaying hulls. Basic food and drink available. Great to see the fisherman and beautiful colours
We visited the section called "French Beach", where there is likely the only beach infrastructure. Basic food & drink is available, but they were out of "adult beverages" the day of our visit. Beach is much cleaner than the town, and though on a weekend, there were hardly any visitors. Sea is a shallow, gradual shelf, extending 30-40 meters out before dropping off. Water was only up to the knee on that shelf, making is suitable for smaller kids. Watch out for the fisherman driving rapidly along the beach!
Great place, I´ve been there with my wife once, on our trip to Mauretania. You can see so many things, and let the sea roll through your mind...Fishermen work there, and their boats are painted in beautiful colors. You can see, they have a hard life, but they struggle on...
the restaurant is right on the beach , it is quite far from the city you have to go trough a check point on the road going to Nouadhibou. the food is adequate, sea food pretty much is the only thing you ough to get, expensive and very little choice
It was a smelly, windy and really dirty. The kids hated it and the food was not that good. I dont really recommand it.
From an eco-tourism persepctive its perfect, but I am not into it, so it was just sad: a few tents, no infrustruture of any kind, sort of restaurants..
Find the bar on the beach. It's probably the only place to buy a beer in Nouakchott, particularly after the most recent vice crackdowns in the city.
The beach and the dunes are the beauty of Nouakchott. The sand feels wonderful. Everyone's out there; Frenchies, other foreigners, Maurs in mulawfahs and bou-bous, Afro-Mauritanians. Only the foreigners seem to swim a lot, and friends have boogie boarded and gone para sailing. Mostly the Spanish. It's a beautiful place to just sit or read, have a bite and enjoy the day! Highly recommended - CAN'T miss it if you come to Mauritania!
The beach is deserted. Beautiful white sand and clean water.
As cold as it was in Nouakchott when I stayed there, it was remarkably warm on the beach. The proprietor set up tents to hold the warmth while not obsuring the view of the water. Food was simple but plentiful. Their salads were crisp and the meat was well grilled. My friends ordered a lobster that was so large they had to split it, and still they were leaving meat on their plates! I ordered a chicken brioche, which is like Thai satay. Mine was flavored with curry and onion. It was light and filling. The thrill for us was the donkey! Someone had a pet donkey who let us pet her. She was so sweet and friendly and came to our table for more petting! Her owner finally dragged her away, sadly. I certainly want to go there again.
