This beach is to be experienced when quiet with not too many people. So try and get there early. The snorkeling is not as good as that of prison island. Also do take plenty of sun protection with you as the sunshine gets strong
here in Sand Bank you will find one beautiful small beach and is really good for beach lovers but I prefer prison island beach myself, because here you don't have any access to food, toilets and etc . but it worth to try one time
We visited "sandbank" as a part of our private day trip to prison island. Sandbank is really beautiful , great for picking different shells and really good for snorkeling around it. It's great if you want to get a good tan and just relax.
Excellent, do go. As several has already said; you dont have to use Isola Nakupenda to go (that is a company that will bring you out, serve food, arrange for snorkling. Probably good, but we brought our own basket of food and drinks, and took a private boat. Some hints; Hotel will probably be able to get you a day-trip for 45 USD or less. You will be able to get your own boat for 35 USD or less on the beach next to Tembo hotel. And food, drinks and fruit is available in shops in the city (ask the hotel for help or a local if you need help).Make sure the boat brings a sun screen (it is not a tent, just four wooden poles and a canvas). This is not an island, it is not there when the tide is high:-) That means it has nothing; no food, no toilet (except the sea), no service. Just around 2 km of beatiful sand at low tide:-)Tide water changes. Google it:-) Sometimes high tide is morning, sometimes evening. There is no island at high tide:-) Be sure to take advantage so you have the time you want. Enjoy!
Unmissable trip from Stone Town. With stunning beaches, turquoise sea and coloured starfishes. We took a private boat instead of the tour and packed our own picnic basket.
So beautiful - the pictures do not even do it justice! We organized a private tour stopping first at Prison Island. WOW - Nakupenda Beaches were the highlight!! Our boat captain even cooked us lobster, shrimp, octopus, and squid on the beach! The snorkeling is incredible and very "untouched" but watch out for the sea urchins near the shore. Probably our highlight while in Zanzibar! Sun is very strong - wear lots of suncreen!
This is a small and beautiful island with very clear water and white sand. Nice place for family and friends. This place is around 15 min boat drive from stone town. The island vanishes when the tide is high so it is always best to visit in the mornings.
This is a tiny sandy island about 15 minutes from Stonetown. If you are up to full day of sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling you will enjoy this island very much. Keep in mind there are no shady areas unless you bring your own beach umbrella . It is full sun exposure. Dhow full of Italians go there everyday to bake in the sun. The white sand and the turquoise water is so picturesque.
Precision Air lost our luggage so we had to cancel our trup with Blue Safari. When it did arrive we tried to get on Nakupenda Isles Safari and they were full. Instead, through this company, we hired a private dhow and had the best time! First we arrived at the sandbar when no one else was there, just the various staff setting up lunch for the other adventure tours. Three of us snorkeled the bay all to ourselves. Wonderful healthy reef with amazing coral! Once all the other tour boats arrived we departed for Prison Island and while we did not have that place to ourselves it was an interesting place to walk and we snorkelled on a reef offshore.Yes you have to bring your own snacks but it was worth it a hundred times over to be snorkeling the bay on our own. Highly recommend doing business with Nakupenda Isles Safari!
....but 20 minutes from Stonetown you can find a sand bank amazing and a wonderful backdrop to explore with flippers and mask!No problem for the tide as in the rest of the island and a relaxing day guaranteed! Not to be missed!
Sand bank absolutely fantastic, snorkeling incredible( turtle!) and great time on boat!i absolutely recommend this excursion if you are in Stonetown!
