Course was in good shape. Enough challenges to keep us entertained without stress. Online tee time request was very easy and efficient. Staff was friendly and very helpful
Good round of golf for very little money at this public course. The course is challenging enough to make it fun and seems to be in good shape most of the year. Refreshment are available and are also well priced. We enjoy playing there.
This is a truly excellent course for being a public course. It is very reasonably priced and provides a good arrangement of tees - five per hole - to match every skill level from the most challenging from the tips to reasonable for seniors and women's. it is no cake walk. Every hole is challenging, yet fun. Well worth the drive.
Good course for a Public one. Place for practice chipping and putting as well as a range.Executive course is good for a quick 9. Main course is good, especially the par 5's.Would recommend for a leisurly round.
I am a low-handicapper and play the tips. The first six holes are ho-hum, but then the course becomes a challenge. I played on a windy cool day which made it harder, but it was still the hardest back nine I've played in the mid-Atlantic area. Conditions are decent for a public course. Greens, of course, are going to run slow. It was easy to get a tee-time and the cost was reasonable. It's worth playing.
For a public course this is top notch, it is really affordable at twilight tee-times and the grounds are well manicured. I like that they have the option of a 9 hole course as well.
My husband and brother in law enjoying golfing here a few times during the summer. Gives them a good challenge.
I love this hometown golf course. I have had some wonderful, memorable times with my friends just trying to play or look like a golfer.
Beautiful course and not frustratingly challenging, but still challenging. I don't like the courses where a little bit of a hook or slice means you've lost your ball.... Have to keep your carts on the path but its okay - such a nice walk!Hope to be back!
Wife and I played the 9 hole Executive Course since she was a beginner. Course is perfect for beginners and just the right level. The 18 hole course has obviously recevied a lot of improvements recently. Staff is courtious and helpful.
This course has seen some changes for the better over the last 6 months. New Pro and staff. Already a great golf course. Front 9 often in the wind with several water hazards to get around, Back 9 through the woods and some elevation changes creating a though challenge.
Nice golf course, challenging with tight fairways.
The course itself is usually in great condition and there's usually not a wait. Also it's fun to play, especially if you like to hit your driver. However, the prices are higher then other comparable courses around the area for no real reason.
Tough but fare layout. Greens always good. Bermuda fairways. Usually no crowd at all
I live in DC and make it a point of playing Hog Neck at least once a year. It's one of my favorite munis. The front nine is relatively open and the back nine toughens up through the woods. The stretch from #13 through #16 are a fine test of skills. You must hit your driver straight.Played Hog Neck on July 11th 2011 and found some areas of rough unmowed and a number of bunkers needing work. We wondered if they have cut back on maintenance because of the lack of customers. We played at 1pm Monday and saw only one other group and a single on the course. Their snack bar closes promptly at 5pm. The server said that they have cut back on hours because of a lack of business. One negative is that they do not have the typical water barrells out on the course. Instead, they had one station on each nine where you could buy a bottle of water for $1. The guy iciing down the bottles said that the spigots had bacteria problems. I asked the pro at my club about this and he said that everyone he knows of cleans the barrells and spigots with bleach periodically.Even with these problems, I give Hog Neck four stars. It's a great course and worth a visit. Bring your own water!
