Just the idea of boat ride to an uninhabited island made us set out for St Clements one Saturday. What I didn't expect was a full day of fun with a bay boat cruise, a lighthouse tour, swimming from a sandy beach, taking in some MD museum exhibits and taking a picture sitting in one-room schoolhouse: All this history and excitement for the price of $7. Pack up a few sandwiches or stop for fried chicken dinners before arriving at the point. Bring plenty of drinks and your favorite float, chair or book. The views out to the Chesapeake Bay were spectacular. The Boat runs pretty often but the last boat back was 3:15 PM. We would have stayed until sunset.

I came here with my mother to explore family history. I truly enjoyed my visit. Julie, the volunteer at the front desk was so helpful and thoughtful. She helped me with a start to finding out more about my Maryland family history. She gave me helpful websites as well as some literature. The museaum, which is very small was filled with so many artifacts and information. I think I was there for at least an hour just taking it all in. I wanted to go out to the island, but since it was a week day there was not any transportation out there. Very lovely place and defiantly worth a visit.

There's definitely lots of interesting information about the early landings of colonists at Maryland - both the landings and the people (e.g., Calverts) behind the initiatives. Easy to digest yet informative. I agree with Mike B's posting. It is a little trek (drive) from the beaten path, but a pleasant little drive. The staff is very pleasant. There is a nice gift shop that is larger than you'd expect. The holiday display involved several ovals of model railroad. While I appreciate that they are hoping to lure more visitors, to be honest, the displays were just different gauges of model trains running around a collection of villages such as Christmas buildings purchased at Walmart or Target. In other words, none of the set-ups were a cohesive scene. But kids will enjoy it.There is a schoolhouse next door which MIGHT be possible to visit. We didn't realize and couldn't ask, as we paid attention to it upon leaving at closing time.

This is a nice museum to get away from the hustle and bustle of city/suburban areas and learn of the colonists first landing in Maryland. Great views of St. Clement's Island and the Potomac River.
