I am not sure, but it looks like this museum may be closing down?! Either way, it is a great little place. The museum guide was awesome, very passionate and knowledgeable about the topic (even with those of us who know nothing). It is a free museum, and you could spend five minutes or a few hours there depending on your interest level!

Enjoyed the free-Friday visit in February. Many new exhibits since my last visit and lovely gift store! It was a cold day, and they had tea and coffee, which really tasted great!

This museum has two parts. We visited the collection of artefacts, boat models, photos and information boards in downtown Cambridge but did not get time to visit the Ruark Boatworks, where boatbuilding is demonstrated. Neither facility is open every day so you need to check ahead of your visit. I did not see access suitable for wheelchairs at the museum and there are stairs to the display floor. The museum is not very large but has plenty to hold the interest of anyone interested in boats, watermen of Chesapeake Bay, and local boatbuilding traditions. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. You can find details on the history of boatbuilding locally and wander around a large collection of models of boats, together with information on their place in the history of fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and its Eastern Shore tributaries. There is also information on continuing water-based activities and events, including a long association with powerboat racing and a 'Schooner Rendezvous' held annually at Long Wharf in Cambridge. The Ruark Boatworks facility situated where Cambridge Creek meets the Choptank River appears to be an area of the museum being expanded so there should be even more to see in the future.

Please to find it open since it often isn't. Small, free Bay oriented museum, which I've wanted to see for sometime since I knew the person it's named after. Worth one visit.

It's a cute historical museum if you're interested in the history of the watermen on the eastern shore

Lots of informative and well presented exhibits on local maritime history. Volunteers are very nice and knowledgable. A nice educational trip for all ages. Check before hand for hours.
