Just do it! So it was 50 degrees F and raining like mad...do real farmers get to stay in bed? Nope and neither did we. We arrived to a quaint little barn and Cameron, Jeff's son who is 12, escorts us out into the bogs. We put on our wadders and step into the water. Yes, just like on the TV commercial. We seriously worked and filled a truck with berries that supposedly went straight to Ocean Spray. Note - this is not a fashion show. You really work. Wear thick socks and bring a waterproof jacket. Even with these things we still changed clothes when we got back to the car to warm up a bit. (We are southerners and had just let 90 degree weather so we are cold weather whimps.) All in all a once in a life time experience and we are happy we were able to participate
Went here on a lark. We had read about it in a brochure on cranberry farms. This is a fairly small operation i think but I don't know cranberry farm standards as this was my first and only experience. It was just very personal, not commercial at all, other than he was a member of the cranberry growers asso and very knowledgeable and involved. They had just started a tour and were full but allowed two middle-aged women from Texas to come along. It was a fun group of people which made it all the better but the owner is just great. Showed us how he thrashes the cranberries in the bog, some rode the machine with him. Then we put on waders and out in the bog we went. Raked the berries and took pictures like the Ocean Spray guys. Some fun young people on the tour recreated the ads for the iphones and we just had a great time. All this sounds simple but was very informative and fun at the same time. We are having cranberries we bought for Thanksgiving this year. I would recommend to anyone who like to know "how things work".
