Parker Pioneer Homestead is only open a short time each year. We have gone several times and went during the month of October. It is set up like a town would have looked back in the 1800's. They grind corn on a grist mill operated by horses. They have an old general store, printing press, post office, butter churns, homemade molasses, and fresh honey. They have a big kettle under the trees where they make kettle corn fresh and bag it up and sell it on site. There's a big barn with all kinds of tractors and equipment like plows and hay balers. This is a great place for class field trips because of it's educational value.

Come hungry because you will do some "samplin" and bring money to buy some of those samples. The price to get in and see all the old buildings--post office really cool!--and how to make a broom, grind corn, etc is not bad but you will spend quite a bit if you are like us. We loved some of the piclkles--boughtva jar 8.50--loved the jelly--6?, sorghum and so it goes. It is a neat place and some of the cabins can be rented for guests which would be a neat place to stay. They need a few more things to look at to make it a great stop but very good and friendly staff!

In October every year they have a great festival. Lots of fun for the family. Listen to live music while you eat great food and walk in all the log buildings. A great trip back in time to see how people lived.

Our son and daughter-in-law had their wedding here. It was a very nice place to have a rustic outdoor wedding.

We went to Parker Pioneer Homestead to experience the Haunted Forest. It was much more than I had expected. It reminded me of Pumpkin Hollow when it was just a couple of years old. The spooks are good but not too bad for smaller children. This is a very family friendly, safe attraction to go to. Admission was $7 per person and well worth it. In the daytime, there are lots of events going on such as broom-making. It has the late 1800's feel. They have wine tasting events in November and December for around $25 per person....that may be wrong. But it is well worth the drive, look for signs when going. All I would say to the people who own it is that they should go to Pumpkin Hollow and see about stepping things up a little more next year for Halloween events because they have the space and resources to pull it off and people will come from all over without a doubt to experience the Homestead. I am hoping to maybe get in on the Valentine's dinner but that will be up to someone else! ;)
