Wear bug spray, walking shoes, read signs along the path & telephoto lens would be great from the viewing platforms.
Maybe it was the wrong time of the year, the area had an early snow and possibly it sent the wildlife off to start their winter preparations. It was a beautiful walk around the lake, but it was cold and we did'nt see a single animal or even a bird !
We stayed at the Wedgewood Resort while in Fairbanks and this little treasure is on the grounds. Although we only had limited time there, it was such a pleasure to be able to walk out of your hotel room and into such a peaceful place, full of interesting birds, squirrels and nature--- really a lovely place to go!
Like the fountainhead auto museum, this attraction was adjacent to the place we stayed. Like the auto museum, this attraction is a gift to whoever visits it.
We did the trail around the lake, it is flooded in some areas so you cannot complete the round. We went from one end till where it was blocked, returned and did the other side till the flooded area.We saw swans, cranes, gooses, seagulls, nice flowers and trees. They have benches along the lake which makes it fun to sit and look at the lake.Very relaxing and nice trail
Very nice stroll around a large reserve with various birds and other wild life. The trail is easy for anyone to walk, the pace is peaceful or whatever you want to make it.
Well maintained trails and lake. Saw a beaver dam by the lake. Nice scenery and woods are nice. WARNING - mosquitoes are in plenty. this was one place we forgot our bug spray and we ended up donating blood to the wrong species.
We stayed at the Wedgewood resorts which is adjacent to the wildlife sanctuary and had a wonder ful time hiking and running the trails.
Meets up with creamers field to give you more hiking options, Leads out from the Wedgewood Resort. Benches available in the summer, and great for snowshoeing in the winter.
A really great walk around the area including a lake/pond full of waterfowl. Good way to spend an afternoon walk.
There was still snow packed areas on the trail but it was easy to follow. Around the lake, path was clear and we were the only ones on the trail, except for the birds. Don't forget binoculars as there are many spots to sit and bird watch. Also saw a giant beaver dam. Can't beat the scenery.
Take the short walk to Wander Lake to check out some more bird life but be sure to bring the mosquito repellant!
We really enjoyed Wedgewood. This is a privately developed and owned refuge. The owner deserves a lot of credit for the investment. Nice place for a walk. Very scenic. Good photo opportunities.
Only 4 years old so the paths are very good and the information boards excellent. About 1 mile walk around Wander Lake with signs of beaver activity but no beavers, or much other wildlife to be fair. Pleasant walk though with good scenery and places to sit.
Nice trails around a small lake, lots of wildflowers and such. We were told active beavers were on the lake, we didn't see any. Still a nice walk!
