Each season the Fairbanks Drama Associations creates a delightful blend of theatre experiences in Fairbanks, Alaska. Some productions are great for the whole family while others are best matched to older audiences - no matter the offering - FDA shares an exceptionally fine production. The wonderful Riverfront theatre is small and intimate and there are no "bad seats". You can enjoy a drink at the bar and even pre-order freshly baked cookies for intermission.
We love going to theatre in the city we are visiting. This theatre is a community one, so do not expect outstanding acting, but we saw "One flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" and were very entertained. What made it very special was seeing how the entire community supports their theatre. Every seat was taken, and lots of people donate money to keep it afloat.
From Colorado visiting and went to a play One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and will have to say the acting was stellar. Better than some broadway plays I have seen at larger theaters They should be proud of the work they do and would recc. anyone wanting a great evening to see one of their plays
The quality of dramatic presentations by FDA is one of the reasons Fairbanks residents want to live here. Every month the staff and volunteers offer wonderful drama to our community. In addition, they have incredible classes for children during the summer. What a resource!!
People sometimes ask me how I live through the sub-arctic winters. Part of my answer is that Fairbanks is a very arts-friendly town. One of my favorite places to visit, in any season, is the Fairbanks Drama Association and Children's Theater (FDA). The organization owns (well, is buying) their own building, the Riverfront Theater. FDA presents plays regularly through the winter season with special events scattered throughout the year. FDA also sponsors Children's Theater workshop for aspiring young actors. Visit their website at http://www.fairbanksdrama.org/ to see photos and information about tickets, coming productions, and who plays in what play. I had the pleasure of going to The Odd Couple (the female version) this October, 2013. It was well done, funny, and a very pleasant experience. Yes, everybody is amateur. It isn't Broadway, but it is fun. Some of the personnel have both formal training, experience in professional productions as actors, directors, and stage crew. If you are in Fairbanks, a visit to FDA is worth a few hours of your time.Disclosure: I am a long time sponsor and supporting member with season tickets. I'm one of the most important members of any acting company -- the audience. Please join me.
