After living in Fairbanks for 2 years we finally checked out the Art Gallery downtown. I wish we had gone sooner. It looks like a very small building but they have used the space really well. There is a ton of artwork for sale as well as a little gift shop. I was unimpressed with Fairbanks artwork for a long time before going to the Art Gallery. The work in there is really great, well priced, and perfectly Alaskan. The customer service was the best we've had in Fairbanks and I wish we could buy more pieces.
A good place to buy local arts and souvenir, we brought a Alaska jade!
We had a little trouble finding this gallery. It's small and easy to drive by, but the stop was worth it. The quality of the work is first-class and the owner, daughter of the original owner, is a delight to talk with about Fairbanks and its history. It was interesting to see how the contemporary art has been influenced by the traditional.
This charming gallery in a craftsman house offers many beautiful objects for sale, created by Alaskan artists. The delightful and knowledgeable owner is the daughter of one of Alaska's well known 20th Century artists.
One of my favorite stops during First Friday. I love the AK themed art and often walk out with lovely cards to send off. Other good ones, Well Street, Good & Well, 2 street, Bear Gallery, etc etc. Check Latitude for First Friday info!
As an art enthusiast, I really enjoyed the variety and quality of the regional art on view in this delightful gallery housed in an old home. From ceramics to jewelry to paintings, and wood carving, you are certain to find an Alaskan treasure to take home with you. Friendly staff, too.
Don't miss this downtown gem. With all the opportunities out there to waste traveler's money on trinkets, do yourself a favor and find yourself something to bring home from your trip with real value and meaning. This is one of the nicest places to see and buy art in the state. Yolande and Ron are gracious and knowledgeable, the art is beautiful, and you'll enjoy your visit.
A charming gallery in the heart of Fairbanks, Alaska House Art Gallery has a diverse collection of fine art and jewelry as well as Alaskan artifacts, fun affordable small gift items and cards. The owner, Yolanda Fejes was born and raised in Alaska and has extensive knowledge of the artists that she represents. There is an interesting variety of jewelry styles - native beadwork, modern and antique handmade bead earrings and necklaces, beautiful metal work in gold and silver. When I travel I have frequently been complemented on pieces that I purchased at the Alaska House. She features different artists each month. For a traveler that wants a high quality remembrance of their trip to Alaska this is the place to find it. A bit like a museum it is worth a visit to see very interesting art and learn something about the vibrant art scene here in the golden heart of Alaska.
It was my pleasure to meet these people. They were truly interested in Alaskan culture and we had a fun time together. We talked about Walrus ivory (which ONLY our Alaskan Natives have the legal right to carve), whales teeth (ivory) and prehistoric Mammoth ivory....which are all found here in Alaska. Travelers always need to know the facts and we have been in business since 1964 so, we are fully aware and anxious to share.
Thank you for your kind review...we try very hard to have a great selection of MADE IN ALASKA items, including authentic Alaskan Native art. This summer we have some amazing exhibits and demonstrations on going- meet the artists and enjoy Alaskan hospitality. Hope to see you in the gallery again soon!
