For the winter visitor please do,check out the Performing Art center to see what theynaremoffering. You might find traditional concerts, famous international acts, theater from Broadway or local state theater. It has three main venues I have enjoyed with different size theaters. I have seen great local actors in plays that make one laughs, cry and thinking. The chorus, chorale and other musical events offered are varied enough to please ever taste from Lyle Lovett to Celtic Women to a superb AnchoGe chorale offerings. how about Les Miserables, million dollar quartet etc for Broadway offerings. All the theaters are designed to please most unless you get behind a VERY tall individual. Anchorage offers many venues for all sorts of theater and music. Check it out.
We're luck to have the PAC and to have the artists and shows that come... the plays, the operas, the symphony. If you don't KNOW the PAC, be sure and look at the map. IF you don't, you may end up to close or too far, depending on what you're attending. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be difficult to talk to a real person when purchasing tickets and understand where that is... I found the alaskapac.centertix.net the best site for seeing a map of the theaters. Dress as you feel comfortable. Alaska is tolerant. If you want good seats but not the clothes, get the good seats and go. And if you want to dress up and can... do so. Have fun and appreciate the facilities.
great shows, music, opera, free concerts (love the Tuba Christmas), and the pre show lectures are always helpful and entertaining.
The PAC is the nicest theatre venue in Alaska, and hosts dozens of shows annually. It's a nice facility overall, though it lacks many of the little touches that venues in New York, Seattle, or Los Angeles has (for instance, "box seating" consists of mediocre chairs along the side wall in a space that is otherwise open to the world other than a banister cordoning off the sections).
This multi live theater complex offers many plays, music events, etc. it is twenty-five years old but is much appreciated by Alaskans. Bathrooms are clean and volunteer staff is great. Seating is comfy
Aside from the busy carpet which can make one dizzy, the acoustics are fabulous. Wonderful Broodway productions, excellent family shows, supurb concerts. I always feel appreciated as a patron.
Love the Performing Arts Center; the staff are always considerate, helpful and friendly. The performances are well done and sound is excellent.
The ACP brings a good variety of shows to Anchorage. Though I would love to see more Broadway shows, they do a good job of bringing culture to Alaska and usually manage to get a few good Broadway hits and lots of other events to Anchorage each year.
Large modern auditorium with a good sound system and excellent visibility from every area. Great place to see a big show
Broadway in Anchorage! Lots of various shows are featured here from Disney broadway to jazz/blues to multi-cultural performances. There is always something going on that spikes the interest of the residents that live here. The performances are getting better and better as the years move along and the school performances are very commendable as it gives all students the opportunity to experience the theater. I'd like to see more of this opportunities for our young citizens.
We went to the Aurora Show one afternoon. It was excellent. Photographer Dave Parkhurst spent years collecting thousands of pictures of the Aurora Borealis; these are his best.
The very first time we when to the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts we flew from Fairbanks, Ak to Anchorage to see "The Lion King", my oldest son liked it so much that he drove to Anchorage the fallowing weekend for his girlfriend to see the same broadway show.
The Performing Arts Center (pac) is a beautiful performimg hall located im downtown anchorage near town square. In the winter right outside has ice sculptures as well as an ice rink. Inside local performance companies as well as outside companies including Broadway come and perform. The ceiling in the auditoriumcarries the acoustics beautifully all the way to the balcony seating. I myself did my very first solo performance there at age three and continued on to do many more. The pac is a special piece of anchorage's creative spirit
I think this show only runs until Sept. 1, 2014, but it is excellent. We learned a lot about the Northern Lights, and the pictures/show is really well done. It is fascinating to see, and humbling to realize the efforts put forth to capture this artistic work of pictures taken over 30 years time.
Alaska Center fro the Performing Arts is a wonderful building with different venues. We went there to see Aurora - Alaska's Great Northern Lights. It was a nice presentation to see for people that has never experienced the Northern Lights in real life. The seating was great and comfortable.
