We were on a cruise and our shore excursion was cancelled. After wandering through the town, we happened on this bar across the way from our ship. It was cheerful and had a great outdoor sitting area where we could enjoy a local beer.
Stopped here for a quick local brew and this place was hopping! Old time rock and roll thundering out of the Wurlitzer- everyone having a good time. We grabbed an Alaskan amber ale and sat on the outdoor patio. The Celebrity ship Solstice was docked right behind the bar and everyone was on their balconies as the big ship was ready to set sail. The owners of the bar came out with a bull horn and started calling to some folks on the ship (who apparently spent a great deal of time in the bar that day) and everyone was hooting and clapping and expressing friendship. Now THERE is atmosphere for you!!!
I randomly found this bar leaving our cruise ship, I would have to say the atmosphere was amazing. The owner was great and her little side kick was helpful. The Happy Bear beer is taste and cheap.
Stopped here while at port from a cruise. Loved being able to sit on the patio while having a cocktail people watching. I recommend hanging out relaxing here.
My friend and I stopped into the Arctic Bar on a cold, rainy day, and we were instantly welcomed by Paula. She cheerfully took our drink order, and brought me a heavenly Bloody Mary (with a delish recipe). After being on a cruise ship all week, this was a delightful glimpse into local life in Ketchikan.
Arctic Bar set on the board walk in downtown Ketchikan near the cruise ship dock has both inside and outside (under cover) seating and on a sunny day has a nice harbour view.It offers burgers and other quick food, several types of beer, wine and cocktails BUT as it has NO BLENDER ALL cocktails have to be "on the rocks"!!LOTS of music happening and has a young fun atmosphere but inside a beer smellWe visited this place after reading ALL about it on Trip Advisor - is nice for a quick drink!
Our group of four stopped in to wet our whistle. A nice deck outback where you see the cruise ship and the harbor area. No grill but they do offer food from the Dairy King across the street. Just a note that it is "cash only".
We like to sample Bloody Mary's where ever we go and this was among the best. Paula, the Owner, was a delight! The location is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the scenery and people. Right off the cruise ship dock!
After a long tourist day we found the Article Bar. Well located on the water near the cruise ships. This felt like a locals bar....beware of the music, it may not be appropriate for youngin's.
We were told by others to stop in at the Article Bar, home of the Happy Bears. Friendly service and awesome Bloody Mary's. Owners will share their Bloody Mary recipe. Great view with patio bar on back facing water.
What a great find. We stopped after walking around a bit for a cocktail and ended up staying a couple of hours. The locals were fabulous people and Paula was a gem. Had to do some "duckfarts" with the locals and of course - buy a couple of T-shirts. I've turned everyone on to this place that goes through on a cruise. It's close by and a great last stop before boarding the ship again. Didn't order any food - but heard it's great - from across the street at the local Dairy Queen.
Interesting atmosphere, great logo, nice patio and right beside where cruise ship was docked. Had a couple of local beers and had a great lunch delivered by nearby Burger Queen. Great afternoon!
Popped in here on a whim when I had a bit of extra time off the cruise ship. Great little hole in the wall type place. Paula was super friendly from the get go, and ordered food from the Dairy Queen quickly. Between her, and the great bartender (a guy from Detroit) I felt instantly at home. Quick service, and they had all the Alaska Ale's on tap. Cheap beer too!! Cute patio in the back. Only downside was smoking inside - but if you can look past that, definitely check this place out!
Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff and good vibe. Nice rustic local pub, visited after the cruise liners and managed to meet some friendly locals. Serve all the local beers which is nice to tryBar staff were super friendly and good fun !Worth a visit
Since this is across from the cruise dock, this place is crowded when the ships come in, but is also a cool place to go at night if you stay in town. This is walking distance from most of the hotels. You definitely get to mix with the local people here. Give it a try and buy a TShirt!
