My wife and I came over to Seldovia for an anniversary get away; we brought our truck and ATV on the ferry so we could do some wheelin'. We stayed with them (Brent and Raewyn) for 2 nights and did the B&B. Food was great and hospitality was phenomenal... The thing that shined about their genuine hospitality was when the ferry was cancelled the day we needed to get back - to work the following day. They found a flight for my wife and I to get back home in time for work. 2 days later they put my truck on the ferry. Since they were so great I let them drive my truck onto the ferry to come to homer for a grocery run. Once they were done we came back to Homer picked up my truck and they hopped on a plane back home. Excellent service and I will open my home up to them if they come over to Soldotna anytime. 4 of us recently stayed and fished with Seldovia Fishing Adventures. I had never been ocean fishing and I am glad I did it with Captain Brent. It was awesome. He is a very experienced sea captain so I felt comfortable. When we didnt catch at first. He just pulled up and found another spot until we did. A great day. But also the stay at their B&B was terrific. Raewyn is so organized and gets all the business done easily. Raewyn with help of the wonderful Peggy, gets you outfitted with yummy lunches (halibut sandwich was the best) and delivered to boat with no stress. Did I mention the yummy homemade cookies.? Lots if them and we put a big dent in them. At the end, fish was cleaned andshipped to our house with no problems. This experience is world class with world class people. I look foward to visiting them again!
My husband and I planned our first trip to Alaska and it was awesome! We were referred to Seldovia Fishing Adventures by a friend of ours. This was the best trip ever. We stayed at the bed and breakfast for a week, and it was fabulous. The accommodations and the food were excellent and the owners were wonderful. We also decided to go Halibut fishing for three days with Seldovia Fishing Adventures. All I can say about that was the fish we caught were as big as we were! It was an incredible experience and the fish catching was non-stop. We ended up coming home with 200 pounds of Halibut, that was expertly filleted and packaged for travel by the fishing tour owners, Brent and Raewyn. This was an incredible trip and we can't wait to go back next year. We had such a great time and are planning to bring a few friends with us on the next trip so they can have as much fun as we did. We highly recommend this trip to anyone and everyone!
My husband and I went out Halibut fishing today (8-10-14) and had a great time ! We chose this company because they also offered the gear to wear, while out fishing. Coming from Cali & just finishing a 7 day cruise to Alaska, we had NO room for something we knew we would only wear one day. The rain boots, pants & jackets were so appreciated & needed ! Brent the owner, is incredibly knowledgable on fishing this area, and didn't stop until we all limited out. He could tell by the "bite", on what fish you most likely caught. They supplied lunch, snacks and drinks. A huge plus for me.....the boat has a bathroom on it. My husbands big plus, is that he uses electric reels ! Even when pulling in a 20lb Halibut, it still puts up a good fight & 7 hours later of reeling in, either with a fish on or just chking your bait, those reels were so nice to have ! I would highly recommend HIS fishing company, over any other here in town ! His wife is a doll, who sets up all the appts, makes sure we're all fed & then takes our pic, once we're back on the dock :) Great time !
Seldovia Fishing Adventures is awesome! They run a halibut fishing charter and they are great at it. The couple that run the business, just took over this past season from what I can recall but they are pros at it and makes it seem like they have been doing this for years! Seldovia is a VERY small town and is very secluded so please keep this in mind when you get to their place of business, which is their home. They run a bed and breakfast out of there and its such a beautiful home. Lovely view of the bay from their backdoor balcony. We had rented out a cabin about a mile away so we never got to experience the B&B part of their business but wish we could have. Raewyn and Brent are the friendliest people you could meet. Brent and Dave were out on the boat with us and they make the trip much more enjoyable. Joking and telling stories throughout. Dave used to be the original owner but he came out and was the deckhand for our fishing excursion. The first fish I caught was a 109 lb halibut and it was so amazing! I was elated when we hauled that fish onto the deck. I say we, because Dave helped me reel that sucker in. He gives you pointers so that way you are actually learning how to fish instead of them just doing it for you. Only bad thing about the trip for me was my motion sickness but they would easily be remedied with some Dramamine. We had winds of about 25 mph... I did get sick. Not fun puking out the side of the boat BUT don't let that stop you especially when you can prevent that with some gingerale or Dramamine. It's definitely worth it. Got back to the pier and got our pictures taken. I hit the 100 lb mark so I am now in the Hall of Fame and get a free T-shirt! All the while, Dave was filleting all the halibut and rockfish we caught. Never seen anyone with that type of skill go so fast! Had about 350 lbs of fish done in less than thirty minutes! We got about 90 lbs of filet out of it which is pretty good split between only 4 people. If you decide to take your fish home, please think about where its going to and how long it would take. We live in Texas so we decided to do overnight shipping so that way it would get here while I was home to sign for the package. Average is about 100 degrees in the summer so the shipping was the best idea for us. If you want to and are not traveling too far or back to a hot climate, you can always check it in at the airport. They have the boxes and insulation that is airport approved so no worries there. They go over all this when you're there so ask questions. They happily answer any questions you may have! Oh, and on the way back we saw a pod of 20-30 orcas swimming around our boat!! Breathtaking! We ended our week perfectly on that fishing excursion!!!
We had a great day. We would do it again. It started off with a great breakfast. Then out to fish with the first fish caught was a 112lb halibut. It was exciting. We caught our limit of fish quickly. The fish was then vacuumed sealed and fed ex to our home. Now we are enjoying it for supper. Thank you and we will be back. Lisa and Rod
My mom and I visited Seldovia in June, 2013. A halibut fishing excursion was booked for us with Dave and Peggy Cloninger of Seldovia Fishing Adventure. Peggy & Dave were awesome to charter with. Peggy replied to my emails quickly and packed our lunch with care. Dave is a skilled captain and their boat, the "Peggy 'N Me", was comfortable and fitted with electric reels. Great! This was our first time halibut fishing and Dave made it fun, relaxed and very successful. We caught our limit easily and he was eager to help us with what ever we needed. Peggy met us back at the dock and helped Dave filet our fish. They professionally vacuum-sealed the fillets, froze them, and took our information to have it FedEx'd back to our homes, even holding my mom's for a few weeks while she was still traveling. I could not have asked for more, This couple is so lovely, friendly and easy to book with. Thanks so much!!
