Absolutely amazing how they coordinate parts to arrive just as the vehicle arrives at the proper place on the assembly line. All ages would appreciate this as a stop for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. just off the Interstate they show you a 21st century faciity. A must stop but call for reservations and in the winter operating hours.
The tour through the plant was interesting and fun. We loved seeing how the Mercedes vehicles are made. This is fun for a family, but kids should be at least in grade school to understand it and not be bored. We would recommend this place!
This is a 3 million square foot assembly facility so it has large scale. Tours are only Tuesday and Thursday in the morning (9-ish) and around noon (12:30-ish). You should call ahead to reserve the time that you want. The website talks about two hours for the tour but the one I went on was about 75 minutes. It is a couple of miles of slow walking with frequent stops so not strenuous. You can see a lot of the production areas which if you like manufacturing spaces is interesting. The Visitor Center is a useful history of Daimler, Benz, Maybach, et al. The display is well done with lots of signage and clear explanations. There is a "film" that is kid oriented for those too young to go on the factory tour.I had my wife and two grown sons with me and we all enjoyed it in varying ways. Worth 1-2 hours to see the visitor center and another 1-2 hours for the tour if you so choose. If you find this review helpful then please click the button below.
Visiting Mercedes and touring the plant was very interesting. The tour is informative and well organized. The plant is spotless. You will see the entire production line. The only thing better than touring would be to leave there in a new M Class.
It was a good place to visit although the video was long, had to leave before I dozed off. If u actually want to visit the plant you have to schedule your visit ahead of time.. There's also a small charge I think 5 bucks and the only do the plant tours on certain days
Professional tour guides able to answer any question about Mercedes. Didn't realize how clean an auto plant could be.
After visiting the University of Alabama we stopped at the Mercedes Benz visitor center and museum. It is a beautiful new building. The museum takes you through the years starting at the beginning to date. Some of the first cars made are in the museum. Currently they manufacture three models at this location. There is one of the two Mercedes used in the movie Jurasic Park. You can sit in the vehicle and have your picture taken, our sixteen year old granddaughter liked that. We enjoyed our visit.
We pulled off to visit on a whim, and are glad we did. The museum isn't as big as I thought it would be, but still well fitted out and professional. It isn't obvious how to take a tour or if one is possible for passersby, so we didn't. Even if you cannot take a tour, the museum itself is worth a quick visit. Didn't take more than 30 minutes, and it is free.
The Mercedes Benz visitor center with training center is a very nice building. The factory tour was exciting to see product made into a finish van.
you meet at the museum from where you are taken by bus to the plant. there's a lot going on at the plant and making car's is the top priority. So tour can be curtailed depending on what is going on inside the plant. you will see lots of robots in a large body shop welding and moving parts. pretty interesting to see how its made.
Loved the tour of the factory and museum... If you are in the area and have time, it is worth the effort...
Very hi tech - a great tour guide (from Canada) who kept us very entertained.
There are a number of old, new, race and variety vehicles on display. Not large, though.
Absolutely fascinating. Well worth the excursion. Highly recommend it.
I went on a tour as part of a sales pitch and was really impressed with this facility. I think people of all age will be impressed with the tour.
