One of my favorite places in Huntsville is The Madison County Nature Trail...

The covered pavilion is great for medium sized family reunions. The only bad is the method for reserving it. You have to go in person and you can not do it a year in advance but can only do it on the 1st of the new year.

This is a great spot for a scenic stroll aorund the lake through the covered bridge, and especially during the fall. It's a nice spot for a family picnic, or just a romantic stroll.

I was so impressed with this trail! It's easy enough for kids and has enough interesting places to stop that it keeps them interested, plus it's a really nice walk. The picnic areas are nice and clean. We are looking forward to spending a lot more time here! (For anyone who's interested, I don't know that you would want to bring a stroller, but you probably could if you had a jogger)

This is a great place to enjoy the fresh air and outdoor scenery. There is an easy hiking trail that is slightly under 2 miles.

Staff was amazingly helpful since this was our first trip. This is a beautiful, peaceful piece of property. Our 5 year old enjoyed the stroll with us through the trails. There are a lot of places to take a seat and just enjoy nature. Breathtaking views!

I loved walking the dogs with my signifigant other along the trails when the fall colors were nice and bold. It's a great, place for a quiet getaway, or romantic stroll around the lake. The covered bridge is a really neat sight as well.

Huntsville has some grand hiking trails and this is one of them. Come on out and enjoy the views you will be glad you did. While you are there please remember to pick up after yourself.

I love this little gem on top of the mountain. Has a beautiful pond, covered bridge, outdoor church and a couple of old homesteads along the walking trail. Also has a huge covered pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms and all are kept very clean. The place is absolutely breathtaking during the fall when the leaves are turning. We make it a point to go every year.

It is a wonderful, quiet walk around a serene lake with ducks and fish. I go there with my visitors whenever possible.

what a beautiful place! very well maintained with a nice hiking trail around the lake,,, about 1.5 miles. There is a pavilion and picknic tables under roof , as well as tables out under the trees, And a bathrooms on the side of the pavilion. There is also a well maintained covered bridge you can walk overnon the path around the lake. The colors of the leaves were gorgeous this weekend and the weather was just right!

The Madison County Nature Trail is a beautiful place to hike, picnic, fish, and explore. It is free, unless you want to fish, and the trails, rest rooms, and picnic area are all beautifully maintained. We love to have picnics here and walk to the bridge on the "long trail", stop at the cabin and covered bridge on the way, then stop at the chapel, spring house, and relax on one of the benches by the water after our hike. This is one of our favorite places to go all throughout the year!

My kids and I really enjoy being in nature. This little "pit-stop" was a great outing before a very long day of driving. I decided to go based on the reviews. I'm glad we did. Right away, we were greeted by the friendly gentleman caretaker - I had read about him already:) The trail is very peaceful and meanders along the lake. There are patches of roots coming through the trail so it is NOT suitable for a wheelchair or stroller but it is nearly all flat level and quite easy for any age. The covered bridge, log cabin and chapel were simple but neat little places to explore. I enjoyed sharing the fact that the log cabin might have been similar to one Laura Ingalls Wilder would have lived in at one time in her life. This made the books come to life. We saw fish, frogs, spiders, and squirrels. I would recommend it!

This small but scenic park on the top of Green Mountain in Huntsville is perfect for families, special events, or a casual walk/run. To get there, head east on Green Mountain Road, going up the mountain, until you reach a fork, where you will keep right. The Nature Trail is on the right. Many people will appreciate the restrooms are relatively clean and they have vending machines with cold beverages. At the trailhead there is a pavillion, which often is the host of barbecue parties and get-togethers, backdropped by a lake and deciduous forest. The well-marked main trail is claimed to be 1.5 miles, but my GPS puts it at around 1.33 miles. The trail is great for distance running, though a considerable challenge for any runner, with many rolling hills, tree roots, and rocks; I have tripped all too many times. Along the trail you pass an old log cabin, a rest shelter, and a small chapel, along with several lookouts. You can fish in the lake with appropriate permits, though I have never fished in there, the lake is rather turbid and doesn't seem to have many fish. The only con I have about the park is if you leave your water bottle out on a picnic table, someone will take it away, which is sometimes a bit annoying. However, the park staff are very friendly. Overall, I have been here several times and enjoyed my time here: it is great for families, large groups/special events, and is quite safe despite the challenging trail.

Not knowing too much about this we decided to drive over. What a spectacular place this is with the lake and walking trail around the lake. There was also the covered bridge. Just a beautiful place to go to relax, take a slow walk and enjoy the flowers and the beauty of the outdoors

I enjoy walking this trail which surrounds a nice large pond. The trail is clearly marked, and kept clean. While unpaved it has a nice wide path with a cushion of pine needles making it a soft surface most of the way. There are a few areas that might be rough for an elderly individual due to a few inclines and tree roots that could cause a stumble in some locations. I enjoy the variety in scenery here. The large pond in the center, the covered bridge, the old steeple on the trail and the historic log cabin along the trail. There are a few benches for resting along the way, but it's not a difficult trail. There are also picnic tables on a hill shaded by trees at the entrance. There is also a covered pavilion with more picnic tables at the top and additional wooden rocking chairs for visitors. The bathrooms are kept very clean and there is a kind gentleman that mans the front entrance. Admission is free. On certain Sundays in the summer local bluegrass musicians will drop by and play for fun. I really enjoy relaxing here.
