We love going to Rainbow Mtn. Trail. It isn't a long trail by any means, so skilled hikers may fin it isn't the trail for them. However, if you just need a calming walk in the wilderness, this is definitely the place.
Rainbow Mountain is a charming oasis. Whether your schedule allows 30mins, or 2hrs, the trails are a beautiful outdoor getaway. Be sure to check out Balance Rock!
Best in spring with abundance of wildflowers, lichens, moss and ferns surrounded by stone outcroppings. Provides scenic vistas of both Huntsville and Madison. Features several primitive trails that are low to moderate difficulty.
We showed up very late in the afternoon on a early March Sunday. The trails were packed with families and folks walking their dogs. We too brought one of our pups who could not have been happier. This was our 2nd visit to the trails and the trees being free from leaves after the winter offered much better views down the mountain. My family was under the impression we were there for a good workout (which we got) but my attentions were focused on finding geocaches. I think I will continue to return every weekend until I find them all. FYI, no bathrooms.
not a place for long hike - only a 1.5 mile trail and a .9 mile trail. I went there to go run and footing was too rocky for that.not great view because of trees-even in winter.easy to find - not a lot of parking - felt safe
Right here in the middle of Madison we were so pleased to find a number of great labeled trails on Rainbow Mountain. Visit the website first for a map, you might need it even though small diamond signs are abundant in the area. Our first visit was on a comfortable fall afternoon which I feel is the best time to visit. The foliage is very pleasant and the cooler air enhances your experience. If you are a hiker, environmentalist, geocacher, parent, pet owner or child, there is plenty for you to do. I think every resident and visitor to Madison needs to visit.
