Wright houses in the Southeast are rare. Those open to the public are even rarer. Thanks to the dedication of the City of Florence, AL and its citizens, this house was extensively restored and is on tour to the public. Took the 45 minute tour, lingered in the house afterwards and joined the beginning of the next tour. The staff is very knowledgeable about the house, the Rosenbaums and Wright. Take time to view the house from the backyard, read information on the restoration and appreciate Wright’s use of space, horizontal and vertical lines. Ask questions, soak up the architectural details of this Usonian house and revel in the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Gorgeous house and property expertly shown by knowledgable docent (Jeff was awesome) who really made Wright and the history of the home and its original occupants come alive. Traveling with two tween girls who seemed to truly enjoy it as well. Highly recommended.
Super fan of Frank Lloyd Wright and his work. So, when I saw there was a house to explore we detoured 120 miles out of our way and added an extra night to our trip just for this location. Other than some rainy weather, we were not disappointed. Tour was very informative and they do allow photos to be taken at this location.
This is a "must see" if traveling in north Alabama. The house and all its furnishings were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and even if his style isn't to your taste, Americans owe it to themselves to see this man's genius up close. It's a stunner.
This was my first FLW house to visit. It is one of his "Usonian" houses which the docents will explain. We were the only two in our group. I don't know what the crowds are typically like but in January there was no one. The house is really neat and the docent we had was knowledgeable and tailored his tour to our needs. He would explain more if we asked but didn't overload us. The story of how a FLW house came to be in Florence, Al. is worth the trip itself. I would say if you have never seen a FLW house definitely go for the story and an appreciation for the clever beauty. If you have seen the more luxurious FLW houses, I recommend going for contrast.
The guides were very informative and friendly. The furnishings are hugely valuable, but you can go right up and touch them. You can see exactly how this house was when it was lived in.
I spent many nights in the Rosenbaum home in the late fifties and early sixties as a guest of my high school friend Alvin Rosenbaum. It was a very livable and unusual house. Great memories !!
Lovely restoration of one of Mr. Wright's iconic Usonian homes. Small group tours are led by knowledgeable docents who excel at pointing out interesting details and historical points about the home. Frank Lloyd Wright fans - don't miss this small gem.
The tour guide said people often comment that the house reminds them of a ship -- with narrow hallways and small rooms & I agree. The original L shape had an addition but it's unusually small for a house that you would pay to tour. Across from the house is an area with pictures of other Wright houses that look more impressive, but this one is more convenient to the SE.
Pleasant surprise on our trip to see where Sam Phillips was born before going to Memphis TN. Typical FLW design, but not the norm for Florence. Well marked to find near downtown Florence.
Very strange design, not built for comfort: however, our guide was full of interesting local stories of the design and residence of the home.
I have a love for architecture and design so this was a great adventure. A piece of 20th century architectural history and modernism in a small town. It was a pleasant surprise on our short trip to visit family.
We loved this house and our docent was excellent. I don't think this is FLW's best work but it was very interesting to see and learn about.
I try to see all of the FLW homes I come across in my travels and I was not expecting to find one in Alabama. The tour was very informative, photos were allowed, and you were able to take a close look at items in the home since things are not roped off, as it is in some of the homes I've visited.
Touring the Rosenbaum House was yet another informative and enjoyable trip into the legacy of FLW and his personality. The docent was excellent, well informed and very enthusiastic. The stories of the Rosenbaum family and the interaction with the architect made them come alive. Don't miss the opportunity to see the house and gardens and enjoy your trip back in time.
