This museum boasts a great selection of planes, but someone needs to proofread the signs that describe the exhibits. There are some glaring errors on the signage. The one we noticed first was the one on the F84 that said its range was 19000 miles when it's more like 1000 miles. After that, we started questioning everything on the signage. Quick checks on the Internet revealed many inaccuracies.Despite the signage issue, this is a nice museum. Just be sure to pick a warm, dry day to visit, as most of the exhibits are displayed outdoors.

This is a museum with a lot of World War 2 and later vintage aircraft on display. It's also free! This is a real gem for all aircraft buffs and historians and general museum go-ers alike. Where else in the USA can you get a look at a B-52 Stratofortress, or a B-24 Liberator (read the book Unbroken), or a B-29 Superfortress (again read the book Unbroken about the devastation this new at-the-time aircraft brought upon Japan at the end of WWII)? This is simply an awesome place to visit in Shreveport, and I would consider it a must-do for any first time visitor to the Shreveport-Bossier City area. They also have an active air base here, so don't be surprised if you see F-15's, F-16's, or B-52's coming in for landings or for takeoffs.

We loved learning the story of the bases namesake and learning about some Air Force history. The display planes are an awesome touch that you can't see just anywhere. The museum is being renovated right now but most displays are still open. For free you can't beat this one.

Nice outside display of planes. SR-71, B-17, B-24, B-51. Fair amount of walking so pick a day when the weather is nice. Was hoping to see more inside the museum in the way of history and displays. Good visit but not up Pensecola Naval Air Station.

The outdoor aircraft displays are unique and fun to walk around. Not many museums have an SR-71, P-51, and the B-24! The indoor exhibits are well done, especially the 9/11 display when President Bush visited the base after the World Trade Center attacks. Nice gift shop.

Nice collections of planes . One of the few remaining B-24 liberators. This was the main reason we went as my Father was a radio operator on a B-24 in WW2, 389th Bombgroup.There is an SR-71 outside with several other planes including a B-17 .There is a fair amount of walking as the jets are spaced out outside by the visitor center. The visitor center is small , but does have a film to watch. The museum is on the Military base so you do need to have an ID to leave at the guard shack on your way in n.

This is a cool place to visit if you want to be out in the open and you are on a budget. There is a small museum inside which includes a short movie you can view about the history of Barksdale AFB. There are a few separate rooms with time period artifacts and displays to view as well. After you walk through the museum you head outside where there is a walking path that features many retired aircraft to see. They have everything from fighter jets to B-52 bombers on display.And hey-you can't beat the price-FREE!

We spent a couple of hours here today, mostly walking outside looking at the planes and listening to the cell phone tour guide. The inside exhibits are just OK, although the 911 timeline and podium are interesting. I found the planes outside very interesting. The museum is free. You do need to have an ID to leave at the gate when you enter. This is worth a stop but if your time is very limited, go to the Art Museum instead because it is AWESOME!

Global Air Power Museum is a great attraction IF- like me- you are former military, or you enjoy this type of history. The museum is located inside Barksdale via the North Gate Road- have a VALID ID and keep in mind that your vehicle is subject to being searched- we were NOT searched, but I mention it as standard operating procedure. It's also FREE. You will enjoy many of the planes- especially the B-17 and B-24- vets of World War II. KEEP IN MIND that it gets HOT out there- it's no picnic in July & August on a sunny/humid day- walking around can get hot rather quickly for older adults or young children. You can also take a virtual tour before you go. Finally- WHEN YOU LEAVE- as long as you have the time- go north on Northgate Road to Old Minden Road- take Old Minden EAST to Airline Drive- take that north to - 20 and then west on 20 to Shreveport to the Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center .http://myoncell.mobi/stops.php?acct_num=13185193083

This is a great museum at Barksdale AFB. There is some informative information and displays inside, and a small gift shop. My favorite part was the static displays of the planes outside. They have a good number of older fighters and bombers. Be prepared to leave your drivers license at the guard gate.

We visited the museum while on vacation in Shreveport. It's so fun to find unexpected treasures, like the very podium used by President Bush on 9/11 in the indoor area, to the actual aircraft lined along the street outside. I learned a lot and my husband, retired Air Force Reserves, thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits.

I had a few hours to spend in Shreveport.and.not being one to hang out at the casinos, I decided to head over to Barksdale AFI to check out the Global Air Power Museum. It.is a little hard to get to because you enter from the North gate and . must go through security to enter. The museum is a typical base museum, situated in an older base building. It is free, and while the inside exhibits are interesting, they are somewhat a hodge podge collection. The real draw is located outside where over two dozen aircraft are on display along with several memorial displays. If you go, go early since there's little shade and the planes are spread out. This is an extensive display of aircraft, and if you go at the right time, you'll get to see and hear Bombers or Warthog taking off for the day's runs. Definitely a museum you'll visit more than once.

This was a very interesting outing; we have two boys and they absolutely loved it! The actual museum was closed due to a power outage but I'm sure they just wanted to look at the planes anyway :-)

The 8th Air Force Museum located on Barksdale Airforce Base is now known as the Global Air Power Museum. Getting in is a bit tricky as you have to go thru the north security gate. I had to give up my driver licences, and it took about 5 minutes for them to check me out and pass me thru while I waited in my car. My licence was returned upon my passing back out thru the gate. The museum itself is pretty interesting, if a bit thin on displayed items. The static aircraft lined up along a long walkway next to the museum is the best part., and the Blackbird is the best aircraft on display. The aircraft range from early military jets to some of the latest models. The walkway passed pretty close to the planes so you can get a good look at them. The museum is free and has a small gift shop, and is worth a stop if you are in the area and interested in military aircraft.

The items that President Bush used during his speech during 9-11 are on display here. Also the outside aviation exhibits are along a walkway that is pedestrian friendly on the side of the museum.
