Brian was our Captain on this particular tour and he was so nice and willing to answer all questions that we had. Brian gave me some really interesting information, and growing up in the area, I never realized some of what he had shared. The boat was extremely safe for children/teens and the grounds where the tour starts from were beautiful. Everything about Torres Tours caters to safety and family fun. We will be back!! p.s. everything is set up for handicapped as well, and that is also very important to us, since my dad will go next time in his wheelchair. Loved the tour!!
This visit was part of our Grand Tour by "Tours by Isabelle". As we boarded the swamp boat, we spotted an alligator about 10 feet from the boat! It was the first of many more. During our cruise, we also saw many turtles, various birds, and even a swimming snake! Our Isabelle's guide explained that this is family-run operation. There are three (I think) tour guides - a father and his sons. They are also alligator hunters. It certainly showed during our tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable of the nature around him. He knew the animals and their behavior, the plant life, the dangers of the swamp (snakes, not alligators!) as well as the beauty in it. This man can spot an alligator with his eyes closed! His tour was quite informative and he answered all of our -very numerous- questions. This tour turned out to be an eye-opener on a way of life and a place -the swamp- that we knew nothing about. On the pratical side, note that the boat fits about 50 people. We were 13, and that was great! It is a "slow" boat (not an air boat) so we had time to admire the nature around us and spot the alligators and other animals. Don't fear sunburns - the boat is covered. Don't fear mosquitos - as we learned the swamp is NOT a stagnant body of water. There were more mosquitoes in New Orleans that on the swamp.
