Yes, this place is a tourist trap but the huckleberry milkshakes make it worth the stop. They also have fresh fudge, huckleberry honey and ice cream. A busy store crammed with toys, souvenirs and such on one side and ice cream, goodies and tables for eating on the other. Good clean fun!
We dropped in for a look around - lots of tourist related gifts to choose from. Thought we'd try an interesting looking piece of pie and ice cream, very generous portion which was delicious. Returned a second time to try a bison burger for the first time, it too was delicious and we couldn't resist another piece of pie! Place can get very busy which puts staff under pressure, it could perhaps benefit from more staff members.
For the uninitiated this is a nice place to stop to pick up some huckleberry treats, and that's fine. They have pies and ice cream and preserves of multiple berry species. But for the connoisseur of huckleberries this is NOT the place to go. The wild huckleberry taffy is not very good, and they don't use real huckleberries. If you want real huckleberry taffy you need to buy the purple Rocky Mountain brand that is sold at the National Park stores. I also could not find any pure huckleberry Jam here, just preserves and a number of jams mixed with other fruit. I found pure huckleberry jams rather at the stores in St. Mary's. A lot of their candies have artificial huckleberry flavoring and coloring. It seemed more of a tourist trap than the real thing. But to each his own.
This store has the most amazing Huckleberry Ice Cream. Rich, creamy and filled with hucks and flavor. You can get all sorts of huckleberry products, pies, jams, syrups, candy etc etc and knick knacks, t-shirts and a larger selection of Glacier National Park souvenirs than the park has in the Visitor Centers.
This was our stop for all things Huckleberry in Montana. The gift shop was well stocked. We also purchased ice cream cones and a pie at the café. The huckleberry pie was unreal. It was huge and wonderful. When I bought it I thought is was a little pricey but after we started eating I realized I had gotten a deal. They use large quantities of real huckleberry in their pies! They would be worth it at twice the price. My only concern is the staffing was slow and seemed understaffed.
During the year, we often make day trips to GNP or camp, raft and recreate in the Hungry Horse area. I love, love, love huckleberries, especially huckleberry ice cream... especially at the Huckleberry Patch. No excursion is ever complete without a stop at this fun little snack bar. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous and the ice cream and fudge are delish! We usually make a trip in December just to buy Christmas presents to send to friends and family... the canned pie filling makes awesome ice cream topping. I'm just saying...
We have made The Huckleberry Patch one of our destination stops for the past couple of years. It is a great gift shop, has just everything you can think of made with huckleberries (from fudge to covered pretzels, from taffy to margarita mixes!). They have a great selection of tshirts and other usual souvenior type things. The folks that work there are friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs, which makes it fun too!
We were staying in Hungry Horse and glad that we stopped at the Patch Alpine Grill for lunch located inside the Huckleberry Patch. Our child's favourite color was purple so she simply loved this place because every item and food was purple! We had sandwiches and they were served hot and fresh along with a nice cold drink of Huckleberry soda. The place has a gift shop and treats so after lunch go shopping! You will find every item made with huckleberries - soap, lotion, soda, syrup, jams and more!!! Highly recommend the Huckleberry icecream and pie!
Bought giftsFriendly employees Got pie to go so I could eat the delicious Huckleberry pie and Apple pie sitting on my balcony at ManyGlacier Lodge Appreciate the care that goes into making those wonderful pies ! Yummy !
We stopped here on our way out of Glacier Park. This place seems to have the largest selection of huckleberry products. The ice cream and milkshakes are amazing and a perfect way to cool down in the summer. They have every kind of huckleberry product imaginable, including jams/jellies, sauces, BBQ sauce, honey, syrup, candy, etc. Prices are reasonable.
The Huckleberry Patch is a place you have to stop if you find yourself in the Glacier Park Area of Montana. They have everything Huckleberry you can imagine (jams, syrups, gummy bears, chocolate, soda...). It also is a great place to pick up a gift for someone that is all about Montana.
I stopped in their gift shop because my father LOVES huckleberry anything, and with a name like The Huckleberry Patch, I figured I couldn't go wrong! They have an even bigger selection of Huckleberry stuff than the Glacier Park Inc gift shops, and the stuff is cheaper too. Chocolate covered huckleberries, huckleberry topping, huckleberry syrup and pancakes and muffins, huckleberry chocolate bars, huckleberry taffy, huckleberry sticks, the list goes on and on. They also sell some flathead cherry flavored items, as well as mugs and t-shirts and other typical tourist stuff.
We were on our way to Hungry Horse Dam and couldn't wait to have another huge piece of huckleberry pie. We brought home huckleberry perserves last year from the gift shop, and everyone put in orders for more jars this year. I love the tartness of the huckleberry pie and they make the best pie crust ever. If you order pie, don't plan on eating anything else. The slice of pie is huge and filling.
We visited the Huckleberry Patch in late March and were pleased it was open, since nearly everything else in the area was closed for the season, but they had huckleberry pie and it was WONDERFUL. I make my own crust from scratch, and I have to say, theirs was yummy and it was absolutely stuffed with huckleberries. The gift shop has everything you could imagine with a huckleberry theme. If we ever go back to Glacier National Park, we will visit here again.
We were in Hungry Horse for a week the end of January/2013 snowmobiling and were told by friends this was the place to go. They were correct, the Huckleberry pie and icream that they make from scratch is fabulous!!! We got there minutes before they closed the day we got into town. The gentleman working was very nice and pleasant--even though I am sure he was ready to go home. Would go again and have the pie and ice cream. It is a fun place to go....lots of souveniers and home made items. We actually stopped in a couple more times to buy gifts (soaps, james, jelly, candles, teas, face cream, treats ---. all made from huckleberries and smells so good).
