We were fortunate to visit the Daly Mansion this year after seeing it almost 18 years ago. The work that the volunteers have done is incredible. They have done quite a bit of restoration and the home is a great example of a turn of the century summer mansion. The tour starts with a very informative video showing the history of the family, how they achieved their fortune and how they came to the Bitterroot Valley. It gives some great history of the area as well. Our guide, Darlene, was extremely knowledgable and had some great stories that brought the history to life. We visited during the off season which just required a call in advance to arrange a tour. In the summer, I like to pack a lunch and enjoy the grounds and the beautiful views.
I liked it because it was historical and gave some perspective about how Hamilton came about and how it was all planned out.
Definitely worth a stop & tour. The history and story behind Marcus Daly & his family is very interesting. The antiques and restored rooms make you fell like you were transported back in time. Plenty of parking and has a beautiful park like setting for large events.
I loved this place. This is kind of hard to find because they dont have very clear signs and have to stop on a dime. Beside that the place is gourgous. I would go in fall because of all the leaves changing. I went on one of the last tours of the season. The house is orginal. They hate it that you take pictures but i understand to preserve whats there. (I got in trouble becuase of it) A good place to learn about the history!!
Today I was in the Hamilton area and went on a tour of the Daly Mansion. I thought the admission price was very fair for the nearly 2 hour small group tour. Our docent gave us a lot of information about the Daly family history as we visited several of the rooms in the mansion. I found this to be very interesting and educational. I am very much into Montana history, and since this was the summer home of one of the Butte Copper Kings it really was nice to see how they lived and entertained. I would recommend this for anyone from Montana or visiting Montana.
If you are into Montana history, you have to see this place. The mansion is well kept but the grounds are unbelievable. See it in October when the leaves are changing.
Lovely old home of the Daly family who basically founded the town here. Beautifully restored and also a work in progress, Costumed docents throughout the home answering questions
I visited the Daly Mansion today. This was probably my third visit over the years. It's great to see the improvements. Our tour guide, Don, was wonderful! He has been involved with the mansion for many years, and we benefited from his knowledge. The Copper Kings, of which Marcus Daly was one, made a huge imprint on Montana history. This mansion represents the wealth available to the early western entrepreneurs involved in mining, lumber, railroads, agriculture, etc. The mansion and its grounds are beautiful and well-maintained. Our formal tour was about 1.5 hours with additional time wandering the grounds.Beautiful day and informative tour.
the Daley Mansion is a "must see" experience. The volunteer staff give such a wonderful historical account of Mr. Daley and his family. I was glad that my friends and I experienced this very rewarding tour of the mansion and grounds.
Lovely Mansion, very informative period dressed host who took us around. For $30 for a family of 4, very good value!
This is one of my favorite spots on the planet! Take a tour of the past and step into a different time altogether!
this was a good place to visit that showed how the rich folk lived. Greta arboretum of different trees that were planted over 100 years ago, old style swimming pool and elaborate landscaped grounds.
Our tour guide's family had personal ties to the Daly family which added a personal touch to the tour. The movie at the beginning of the tour set the scene for the rest of the visit. I'm happy that they are collecting only things that belonged to the Daly family rather than trying to fill the mansion with a lot of 'stuff'. We had visited the house of one of the other Copper Kings in Butte, so this was an interesting addition to our history lesson on copper in Montana. We weren't sure we wanted to drive to Hamilton rather than do more in Missoula, but we were glad we made the drive.
We took the guided tour of the Daily Mansion that starts with a short movie. We arrived early and were invited up to the 3rd floor to look at displays not included on the tour. I highly recommend this. Daily's life was so exceptional it takes a bit to take it all in. This home is totally furnished to correct period with new items being donated regularly. Daily's horse stock won 5 Kentucky Derbys! Ask about the stables that have been restored beautifully down the road.
My son and I went to the Daly Mansion. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The tour started with a short video overview of the family history which really helped a visitor understand more about that era in Montana history and made the house tour that much better. The tour guide was informed and full of information about the family, house and customs of the time. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to take a couple of hours and see the mansion.
