Nice small venue for a concert. The restrooms could use a little work, but other than that I would definitely see a show there again
Its a great asset to Frankfort to have a real theatre to see ballets, live plays, old movies, etc. I wish we as a community utilized it more. It still needs restored in some parts but its a beautiful piece of history that needs to be preserved for generations to come.
I love old theaters and was happy to see that this one has been very well preserved and maintained and is still operating. But I was really expecting to see something much more, well, GRAND!
Renovated theater with gallery space upstairs! Music, Plays, Movies and more... something for everyone! A very intimate space.
Wonderful place!! I have been there for concerts and movies. It's truly unique! You feel like your stepping back in time. You won't be dissapointed. Very clean and pleasant staff.
We are blessed to have a niece and nephew that are involved in the theatre's operation. It is a magnificient building in downtown Frankfort that has history as well as a future. My niece's son keeps talking about the time Jack Hannah came to town.
I have attended almost every event at the Grand since it's opening. The facility provides an outstanding season each year in a delightful space without a bad seat. The theater was restored from a grass roots group of local citizens intent upon restoring this facility which once featured vaudeville shows. If you are fortunate enough to be in Frankfort while a show is on, do not miss the opportunity to attend this small, friendly, beautifully restored space. While downtown, do not miss the Old Capital, Completely Kentucky, the Coffeetree Cafe, Poor Richard's (an independent bookstore with interesting gifts and novelties), the Irish Sea Gift Shop, Liberty Hall and the Orlando Brown House plus the Kentucky History Museum. For an added treat, stay at the Meeting House Bed and Breakfast only two blocks from Broadway. Check in any of these places for other things to do while in Frankfort. We provide many entertaining and historical sites for visitors.
Have now seen a few shows at the Grand and I have enjoyed everyone. The latest was Tin Can Buddha and it was an outstanding show.
What a lovely restored and renovated venue. All volunteer staff that takes pride in their work and their community. What an example for all of us.
My family and I have seen many shows at this venue. There is not a bad seat in the place, in walking distance to downtown eateries, and a place that has added a lot of value to Frankfort. The quality of shows and movies are excellent, and bring a worldly flair to small Frankfort, KY. I have been completely blown away by the talent that has rocked this place (all while feeling I must be in a different country) - Ben Sollee, Stirfry Musette, the Chinese dancers, just to name a few. We also saw Lincoln and Les Miserables here and my daughter had a ballet performance there, which was very special. I love the quaint feel and am impressed at the vision of those who took on this project and those who continue to volunteer to keep it running. Highly recommend.
This theatre has been carefully and lovingly restored by members of the Frankfort community. Run almost entirely by volunteers - everyone from house managers to sound and lighting technicans, ushers, ticket sellers and concessions staff - the Grand offers a venue for art house films, live performances, children's theater, live broadcast feeds and local artist exhibits. Prices for events are incredibly reasonable and the theatre is beautifully decorated in a modern style, yet designed to perserve its traditional flair. Treat yourself to a visit and I guarantee you'll be back!
my father back in his time he use to work at the grand theatre and now they try to restore it like it was back then ... to the people that bought the place and had it restored ...you didnt even come close to the what was back then and why would people would pay for play or a movie over 100 dollars ...your not fooling me at all and it will never be like the old times and if the ones that owned grand and mucci's resturant that was the money making time back then and cecil pal's place too .. but far as the grand theatre goes ... its a poor place to go to and never will go there even though my father has work there back in his time ...just a shame the people that own's it now wanna charge high price ...not worth the time and money to even go to it ..
A 1911 restored old vaudeville theatre with upgrades to the sound and movie screen makes for a nice movie theatre plus the theatre is a draw for musicals, plays, and music venues.
Hippie hangout for the downtown crowd shows movies that nobody has ever heard of. Go to Lexington cinemas instead.
Whether it's a one-man show on his experiences as a worker at NASA, giving people an inside look at a half-century of man's flight into space, or a surprisingly good (and amazing look-alike!), nationally touring, faux-Rolling Stones band, an off-Broadway play, a historic, Kentucky Chautauqua, portrayal, or a sample of bluegrass, and even a showcase for local artists, the renovated Grand rivals those of much bigger cities, with far lower prices!
