How many sailors buffeted by violent Atlantic storms silently thanked their maker when they saw the Southeast Lighthouse's fresnel lens refracting the light into the frigid ocean gloam? It's a beautiful lighthouse. Red brick solid, graceful in a chunky stolid way. Around 1994 or so, I and my family watched it jacked up on to rails and millimeter by millimeter moved back off off its precarious perch on the bluff. Now, it's probably got another hundred years before the depredations of global warming and erosion put it once again at risk. So, don't waste time....jump in your auto, take the ferry, and make your way to this piece of grand, functional, lifesaving architecture.

We took a short walk to the lighthouse and were totally amazed of the beauty of this lighthouse. Standing near the Mohegan Bluffs gives this lighthouse a serene atmosphere. this is a must take when on Block Island.

We saw this lightouse from a distance - in the pictures it looks like it is a short walk, but it is quite a walk though the sand - it is ork the walk, but allow time, or you can go as far as you want to get a good picture.

The view and the experience was a piece of heaven. We will be back definitely. Take your time and just soak it all in. Put the cameras away and ENJOY THE MOMENT! :)

We were married here 4 years ago! It is such a beautiful, tranquil spot. The lighthouse has a neat history and is gorgeous. The views from up top are spectacular. Take the tour inside (few dollars) - it is worth it!

this lighthouse is an architectural gem, and at some point, it should absolutely be refurbished. The lighthouse building is absolutely beautiful. There are four chimneys, and a peak inside indicates tiny fireplace and alot of neglect. There is no question this place suffers from our country's lack of need for lighthouse attendance. But this unique structure, built almost like a large, Victorian mansion that just happens to be a lighthouse, should not be allowed to degrade further. The brickwork clearly needs to be repointed, the woodwork needs to be replaced before additional damage occurs, and the antique windows should be preserved as well.

Captivating view of Long Island from this lighthouse, and the open sea!Visited by school group on most days during the school year.

We hiked to the Southeast Lighthouse via the interior portion of the Island and then along the Mohegan Bluffs. There was a small food truck at the lighthouse, which offered a fun frozen lemonade that was perfect after a couple hours of hiking in the sun.

The lighthouse is pretty unique - brick structure that was moved away from an eroding cliff a couple of decades ago. The process of moving this large structure is outlined and amazing. The curator on premise knows his history and the history is fascinating. Admission is free unless you would like a tour and then it is $10 for the tour, which we did not take, but there was lots to read and the views are spectacular.

This is a beautiful lighthouse, with an a amazing history. Spend a few bucks and take the tour, you will not regret it. If you enjoy learning about the places you visit, you will be charmed with the history of this special spot on Block Island. As a child I loved seeing the green light flashing at night and hearing the sound of the fog horn. Sadly those features do not exist today. But the views from the top are still incredible. Yes, they did move this entire building years ago, with a huge fundraiser, to save the lighthouse from the steady erosion of the coastline.

We chose the South east lighthouse, because we were told that the North lighthouse was closed. The history narrated by the tour guide was excellent as well as the climb to the top...what a view. WE could see Montauk point and its lighthouse from the top.

Beautiful views surrounding this Lighthouse. It does cost money to go up into the lighthouse and there was a wedding ceremony there the day that we went so not the most ideal time. Grassy lawn is the perfect place to relax for a few minutes and hang out

Wonderful view from the top. Jim was our excellent guide who filled us in on the history. You could tell this light house is close to his heart. Work is ongoing in the living quarters which are not yet open to the public.

I've been to Block Island a number of times over the last couple of years, taking my boat down there with different groups of people. This was the first time we had time to rent bikes, and ride around the island. Our first stop was the Southeast Lighthouse -- a beautiful brick and stone lighthouse that was moved back from the crumbling cliffs a couple of decades ago.We took the tour all of the way up to the Fresnel, and found it to be a very educational and interesting tour, even though it got very hot in the glass tower. However, if you time things right, you should be able to get some fresh breezes from the open windows. We were surprised by the easy views of Montauk Long Island, which is so close to the lighthouse end of the island.Overall, we found it well worth the price to see this historic location.
