Took the easiest trail, the brook trail, several miles in from paved road. The last several road miles are rough, glad we left the delicate Prius at home. It's nearly two miles up to the lookout, where we ended our hike, by a lovely pond, with views of the summits. The first part of the hike is up a wide stony trail (like a dry stream bed), then onto a narrower trail with some boulders to negotiate. More or less straight up with few breaks. The view is worth it (no pain, no gain). This trail is popular, espec. on weekends/holidays, lots of dogs, student groups, all ages. Other trails are considered advanced and this one is moderate, good for descent. If you're fitter than me, going up the other trails and descending the brook trail is more memorable. Lots of youngins camping at the pond, some garbage gets left. For a quieter experience, avoid weekends and summer/holidays. For mutual support ("you're almost there!") do the opposite.

Loop Trail is challenging with lots of boulders and steep climbing sections! Views at the top- TOTALLY WORTH IT! If you like your trails less challenging take Brook trail. Pond at the top of the mountain is so refreshing, plus you can fish! A must hike!!

The hike up was great. Nice trail. When you reach the crater lake it is absolutely breathtaking. Views are spectacular.

Heh heh. Yes, what is it about obnoxious young men. Actually, no, I don't find it entertaining to hear about your drunken escapades. And for the record, the water is not cold. I was in it for over an hour. Then again, I'm Canadian so YMMV. Otherwise, this is a perfect hike. I saw lots of families, some with children as young as 7ish, so I guess it's fair to call it a moderate hike, but I was spent coming out. Well worth it.

We hiked the Brook Trail to Tumbledown Pond. The path varies from almost-level gravel to near-scrambles over boulders. We had great fun, and my husband was able to do it with our one year old daughter on his back. The pond at the top was a great surprise and a jewel of a spot (although I could have done without the dozens of teen boys swimming and screaming their heads off about how cold the water was).
