went with some friends and we had the best time. start off with a tour of the neighboring islands then to cabbage island for the clam bake. we watched and chatted with the cook as to how they prepare your dinner. they use the seaweed around the island. definitely going back this summer and bringing family that's visiting and yes, mrs. moore goes from table to table and chats with the guests. we had a lovely meal and a great time and you can't beat the price for what you get!!!
Cabbage Island is an entire experience. You feel like you have joined the family for the day. The ride out is beautiful and the captain gives you a little tour. The moment you reach the island the staff immediately gets to work making sure you have everything you need and feel as welcome as a private family guest. The food is cooked right there in front of you on the grill under the seaweed. There is more food than you could ever eat. After you eat, you have time to wander around and explore the beautiful island. We went on a full capacity day, but there is plenty of space on the island to hike off and find your own space. Only critique was that there wasn't a lot of bathroom facilities, so if you need to go during dinner, be ready to stand in line. They also have a volley ball net and some other equipment to keep people of all ages happy.
There is a wonderful boat ride to the island, then you are treated to a wonderful meal. The boat captain gives a very interesting narration of the sights on the way to and fro.
Leave your worries behind and enjoy the day. This is a fun time for people of all age. Take a boat ride out to an island and have a seafood lunch with all the fixings on a picnic table. Play old time yard games and mingle.
Been going to this clambake since 1992! What an experience for a first-timer! The boat ride to the Island is so beautiful. Cabbage Island is a gem in the middle of Linekin Bay. Delicious food! Wonderful staff! Don't leave Boothbay Harbor without trying this! You'll never forget it!
This had been on my bucket list for 15 years! I "missed the boat " last year; so I made it a priority this year! I was not disappointed!!!!! I boat ride was interesting and the sights were great. When we pulled into the dock on the island it was a scene I didn't expect. The grounds were beautiful on this family owned island. They have been doing this since the 50s. The staff was very helpful in service and letting us know what to expect. What i didn't expect was the fantastic food and the amount of it! Incredible! After the meal( worth every penny) I walked around and let my meal settle a bit. the ground were beautifully gardened and plenty of shade and grass and even a badmitton game! When it was time to go, we were summoned to the dock to depart. The two brothers that now run the operation, shook every souls hand as they got back aboard, and asked if they had a good time, and for any suggestions. The trip back continued the scenic tour and we arrived back in the heart of Booth Bay Harbor totally satisfied! It's stil on my bucket list for the next time!
I agree with most of the former reviewers, but the reason I did not rate it excellent is due to the lack of clarity of the narration unless you are standing outside on the bow. Enough visitors have mentioned this by now that I hope the Moore family will take notice and try to improve the quality for those sitting inside, either upstairs or downstairs. There is so much of interest to see on the way and the narration was more than adequate in content - IF you could hear it. Granted, one contributor to the problem was that some visitors were not content to sit back and enjoy the beautiful scenery but felt it necessary to talk loudly on their cell phones or, even worse, conduct a two way facetime conversation with all their family. The weather was perfect, all the staff were extremely hospitable and our first experience with lobsters and clams still in their shells was quite the experience. I am not sure whether any of the staff would have given a couple of elderly Virginians help in wrestling the lobster meat from the shells, but, fortunately our table companions were helpful Bostonians who came to the rescue. It was a memorable day out which we shall treasure for as long as we live.
If you come to Boothbay Harbor and you want eat lobster in the rough, the Cabbage Island Lobster picnic is for you. This is a great family adventure and a great way to see Boothbay Harbor's coastline from a boat. The trip to Cabbage Island via boat is yet another way to see a part of Maine from a different point of view and you will be able to enjoy a truly authentic New England meal. It's fun, it's a bit messy but you will learn how to eat lobster the real way. The boat trip is exciting and the crew are friendly and they make this adventure a real must!
We had the best time of our vacation here. The boat ride, the island, and food, ALL were awesome. The young men cooking the food were proud of what they did and it showed in the way they explained the process of preparing the meal and history of cabbage island and clam bakes. This is an activity the whole family wants to do again (this includes two teenagers....what more can you ask for!).
This was the highlight of our trip......the family that runs the lobster/clam bake are so friendly and the food is the best we have every had.
The cruise out to Cabbage island is outstanding and informative. The setting is very homey and casual and the service can't be beat! And the food...a ton of it...and it's all great. We had a great time even on a dreary cold drizzly day!
Great authentic lobster bake experience. Owners do a great job running an efficient and fun operation. The food is excellent and the location is very beautiful.
This was a lot of fun. We took the boat out to this island that has only one house. They fed us homemade Maine food, ie. lobsters, corn, pie, etc. Very homey feel, great BBQ, and nice to hang out on the island with good views of the coast.
What a great time! The entire package is just awesome. Could not recommend this more highly. The boat trip is over to the island is full of neat little tidbits of info and the food was amazing. Plan ahead though. The trip sells out fast. We went on a Tuesday and they wee sold out till Friday.
The boat ride out to the Island takes about an hour, and you get to see many points of interest around Boothbay HarborThe Clam Bake haas a varity of food from the lobster to corn on the cob.
