On our way back to Québec City on our sailboat, we stopped in Mechanicville, N.Y. on the Champlain Canal and were delighted to learn that the city offered free docking, electricity and water at their city dock. Our boat has a 6 ft. draft and there was no problem approaching the dock. At walking distance of the dock, there is an exceptionally clean laundrymat with the latest machines where you have free Wi-Fi access. Brand new toilet and shower facilities are on site. To top it all, the city offers bus transportation during working hours for a fee of 25¢. You just have to call the number indicated on the billboard of the dock and the bus driver will pick you up and bring you where you want to go. You can stay for 3 nights at the dock. It is a hidden gem.
