We wanted to learn to classic (nordic) ski. Many places have some trails which are almost an after thought adjacent to a ski resort but this Nordic Center is quite extensive. There are three major areas to ski of variable difficulty, all very scenic. The staff were helpful. The equipment was of good quality. We thought it was worth traveling all the way to Crested Butte to find this beautiful area.
many places to ski, well groomed trails, beautiful place. The Nordic center is decent size and have nice people selling tickets
Pay $35 for a lesson and your kids are set for some fun Nordick Skiing! They also have open ice skating and a sledding hill!
If you want to nordic ski I guess this is the place for you. Unfortunately its also billed as a sledding/tubing destination, which its not--unless you are a small child. Surprised that Crested Butte does not have a sledding/tubing hill for adults!
Totally impressed by the extent of trails maintained by the nordic center! Lots of varied terrain, groomed for classic track and skate lanes. Their GPS-based grooming reports are also very impressive! I wish all trails were so well managed. The actual center itself didn't seem capable of handling more than two guests at a time, however, which is tricky when you have gaggles of families renting gear and you just want to grab a pass and go. One other complaint: the trails that are designated as dog-friendly are great--I'm all for the pooches, BUT no one seems to be cleaning up after them, so the pristinely-groomed trails are soiled and disgusting. :( Regardless, fantastic cross-country skiing--GO!
Staff were very helpful in recommending trails for snow shoeing. Tried the trail system one day and found the snow shoe trails difficult to find and not as scenic. Would recommend renting shoes and saving the cash on the nordic trail system.
Beautifully groomed trails, stunning scenery helpful/pleasant staff. The yurt is a must see whether you are lucky enough to dine there ( once a month opportunity ) or simply pack a sandwich and take a breather and soak up the sun or warm up by the wood stove!
This was our first time at the CB Nordic Center. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. We spent two days skiing the trails and especially enjoyed the ones to Magic Meadows. I'd definitely recommend checking out Crested Butte's Nordic Center.
Visited here when I first arrived this year on our trip to Crested Butte. Exactly what I was looking for, help and guidance for a first-time "snowshoer". Good instruction on equipment, groomed trails, and levels of difficulty. Staff were friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable.
Once you get up the hill the trails are great.Prices are easy on the wallet.Take your camera on a nice day.
I had the opportunity to visit the Nordic Center twice during my stay in Crested Butte. This was an amazing experience both times. Since I have a fear of going down hill, I dropped my family off at the mountain base for alpine skiing, then headed to town for Nordic Skiing. I scheduled a private one hour lesson on classic cross country skiing. My instructor, Tony, was terrific. He was patient and fun. He even kept me past the one hour mark since I was picking up the technique quickly. On my second scheduled lesson, Tony worked with me on overcoming my down hill fear. Everyone who works at the Nordic Center really seems to love their job and it shows. Next year, I think I should be able to rent the equipment and head to the trails solo. Thanks Shane and Tony.
These guys are great - they cater to everyone, not just the well to do tourists. Ice skates, snow shoes, skis, nice!
I got up to Crested Butte with hopes of finding early season nordic skiing.....what I found far exceeded my expectations... The Crested Butte Nordic Center offers the best early skiing in the state of Colorado. The Center grooms Lily Lake for classic skiing as an early season teaser for anyone to get a jump on the season. The skiing yesterday was absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed the opportunity to ski with the Director of the Nordic Center, Keith Bauer, who shared his excitement about the new 'homologated trail' on the bench. It will also be the highest homologated venue in North America, if not the world. Homologation guarantees that a trail meets international standards, set by FIS (the International Ski Federation), and will allow Crested Butte to host events, like collegiate races and races on the national pro circuit. This is one more reason that I would argue CB is the Nordic Ski Capital of Colorado. And best of all, there is no fee for early skiing at Lily Lake.
I stopped in and learned about the CB Adaptive Sports Center. It seems like they have great programming!
There are so many great trails that are so close for snow shoeing and cross country skiing. They are well-marked and nicely groomed and then are many trails in the National Forests too.
