Great fishing, beautiful scenery, and wonderful hiking. Prettiest place in Pueblo county! It's 2.1 miles around. Ice fishing in the winter is great!
My daughter and I did thiis hike. It was beautiful! It was rated easy butwe thought is was considered a more of a moderate hike, especially towards the end. There are some beautiful waterfalls and streams; the trail is well-marked and we saw several people along the way. The parking lot was full so we had to park at the lower lot and walk maybe .3 mile to the trailhead. What a great time!
My sister recommended this hike. My daughter and I met in Lyons; right outside Lyons we saw 4 big horn sheep, biggest horns I've seen. Beautiful. We then saw 3 bull moose right across the road from Brainard Lake. Again, what a treat to see bull moose and their racks were HUGE. We parked and hiked to Lake Isabelle, 6.6 miles roundtrip, mostly easy to moderate. Get to the trailhead very early in the morning (by 7 am) as the parking lot fills quickly. We were the only ones hiking and as we summited at Lake Isabelle it was already clouding up. The view at Lake Isabelle was just gorgeous and the wildflowers at the beginning of the hike were so pretty. As we descended we met many, many people so it was nice to beat the crowds. Always safer to hike early anyhow due to afternoon showers/lightning. Would highly recommend this!
This was our fav hike and hangout in the Brainard Rec Area. It is state run but looks like a National Park. Same beauty as nearby Rocky Mountain National Park but literally no crowds.
