Reasonably priced tram ride up to the top of Monarch Mountain where you will be treated to an unbelievably gorgeous 360-degree view of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. Bring a jacket or hoodie (even though it is warm down below) because it will be breezy and chilly.
I thought is would be a tourist trap experience, and frankly was not in favor of going. I must admit that I was wrong, wrong, wrong. The tram is reminiscent of vacations long past. Fair price, friendly operators, dog friendly too. The family took the tram up and did the easy hike down. The views are incredible, the wild flowers were in bloom, it was a highlight of the weekend. Should you find yourselves in the area this is truly a "must do"
15 minutes up and back plus whatever time you spend taking puctures . Great observation area. You can see for miles! Senior discount $8 and free popcorn at the gift shop. Attendants were friendly and informative .
We were lucky and had an incredibly clear day when we went. The rate for seniors (over 55) is only $8. What a deal. Blue skies and white clouds over gorgeous14,000' mountain ranges such as Pikes Peak. The tram operators were very nice. They even have loaner jackets if you don't have one -- you will need it, brrr. Our best mountain pictures of Colorado are from the top. Spectacular. We went to the shop afterward and enjoyed the free popcorn and bought some gifts. I saw a man get a huge ice cream cone (next time!). Employees were very friendly. Excellent stop!
Kids enjoyed the ride to the top- and the free popcorn at the bottom! Take time and talk to the attendants- they have great stories to tell!
Owners/employees are really nice! My family and I truly enjoyed our ride, free popcorn, and our time spent at the tram.
This tram takes one to the crest of "The Great Divide." With view from this aerie one can see vast distances. Not to be missed is the excellent gift shop at the base of the tram.
Great views at the top the day we visited. Shout out to the Salida CC for recommending we go. Well worth the $$ for the ride and unlimited time at the top.
The ride is short and the tram well maintained. Once on top you are in a covered and enclosed building with markers for mountain peaks to identify. The view is amazing if the weather is good and dramatic in the rain if you like storm watching.
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Tram an easy ride even for those a might squeamish about heights. Outstanding views. Still snow on top in July! That was a pleasant surprise.
I stopped to stretch my legs at Monarch Pass on US 50 and spontaneously decided to zoom up the tram. The eight minute ride adds an additional 750 elevation gain from the pass, with absolutely stunning views on a sunny or partly cloudy day. The enclosed observation deck had panoramic photos with labels so you could identify which mountains you're gasping at. You can also walk around outside as long as you would like before returning to the bottom. It was fairly crowded at the base, but so much more quite since relatively few groups were interested in heading up the tram. It is windy most days at the top, so grab your sweatshirt and/or jacket even if it is really warm at the base. Oh, and FREE BAG OF POPCORN when you get back down to the bottom! You'll want to spend time in the gift shop, too...it has some neat stuff and more history about the area.
Okay maybe not but a great view at the top. Panoramic. Fun ride up and a free bag of popcorn to boot. ENJOY
If you are traveling thru Monarch Pass and its a clear day - take the tram and your camera. Some of the best views at 12,000 ft. You can see Pikes Peak and all the mountains in a 360 degree view. Bring your jacket. We took great pictures and rated this one of our favorites on a trip across CO.
The drive up to Monarch is itself interesting. The day was totally clear, with every peak shown on the panoramas in the viewing area visible and super clear. Not many people taking advantage of the day. Quite windy - not a day to be out on the observation deck. Would be disconcerting to some but the cars are fairly close to the ground and the worst movement of the cats is toward the top. Definitely worth the time and cost.
the ride was gorgeous...like the others said bring your jacket..the staff was helpful and friendly!! we completely enjoyed it, it is something you should not miss, we could see over a 100m miles!! free popcorn with your visit, and the gift shop has alot of nice stuff and snacks and fudge!! we even saw a bear!!
