I have always enjoyed Carlson wines, but another family we kept running into on the tour told us about the Laughing Cat at Carlson. So, we did make sure to stop. Probably best stop for us. They had several different wines, many wine related items in their shop, jams, jellies, sauces.... And, you could buy a chunk of Enstroms Dark Chocolate to dip your wine glass in when you drink their Cherry wine. Definitely worth the trip. We never saw the cat in person, but several wines are named after the cat.
A fall road trip is mandatory to this location to purchase the savoring Laughing Cat Gewurztraminer. If you enjoy great wine this is the experience of a lifetime to enjoy a local master!
We toured here after the Tour de Vineyards bike ride, and as usual, I didn't leave empty handed. They have quite a few reds, whites and sweeter dessert wines, but I brought home the Calico red-blend. They are very friendly and open to talking about anything about wine or the area, so you should definitely stop by!
Calsons is nestled among vineyards and orchards at the base of the Grand Mesa and near the Mt. Garfield. The views are wonderful. The people are very fun and enjoy showing off their wines. The fun show in the wine names: Laughing Cat Riesling or Tyrannosaurus Red Lemberger. So this is a great place to do a wine tour, We do it every year. Heh.And the wine is pretty good too. They have most of the basic types of wines. I particular like their German efforts. They have both a sweet and a dry Gewurztraminer. Both are good, but the dry is better. But what I like the most are the fruit wines. The are, of course, a little sweeter, but they aren't the cloying sugar-bomb wines that give fruit wines a bad name. They are really enjoyable.
The staff at this winery were very friendly and knowledgeable. The made the experience fun and had great recipes and ideas for unique ways to use their wine. The wine was wonderful. I would recommend making a stop at this winery if you are in the area.
There are a lot of small wineries in the Pallisade area, but Carlson has been a favorite for about 20 years. They have a full range of excellent wines, all of which are available for sampling in their small tasting room. The small gift shop offers their wines along with a few other items (including t-shirts featuring their cleverly designed labels, i.e. Prairie Dog Blush and Tyrannosaurus Red). If you're a wine lover, you will love this winery!
We liked everything we tasted! This was our third or fourth annual visit. We love the cherry & peach wines which are made from cherries or peaches (not grapes with cherry flavoring). They usually have written recipes for great ways to enjoy the wine. ie: chocolate covered cherry wine & hot peach cobbler in a mug. Yum
They spent extra time to let us know about their wines. They made a laugh and offer a really nice outside seating area! I don't have a huge palate for their wines, due to my big bold love for reds. but really enjoyed some wines I didn't think I would like!
If you love fruity wine this is the winery for you. The owner/winemaker is so friendly and loves to tell stories! Every time we go to the Grand Junction area, we come away with a case of wine!
We have visited various wineries in the valley and Carlson's remains one of our absolute favorites. The people are extreme friendly and informative. Enjoy tasting all of their wines and be sure not to miss the Sweet Gertz, Sweet Baby red and their Laughing Cat Reisling!
