Dillon reservoir is an accessible gem, about an hour west of Denver (and almost a mile higher) it features two marinas, a water taxi during the summer season, paddle boarding, premier sailing AND an incredible outdoor amphitheater that hosts FREE concerts most every Friday and Saturday evening during the summer. What could be better than smooth jazz, a glass of good wine and a phenomenal mountain sunset on a Friday or Saturday evening!

Even though the Lake was frozen over it was worth walking around part of it. There is a nice wide bicycle path that was cleared enough of snow/ice that made for a nice cool walk after skiing.

There are so many ways to approach the lake..not just from Frisco or Dillon but from many parks along the lake. Walk or ride the paved trail. OR walk along the shoreline for a new experience. Do try the walk in the snow for a special enchanting treat.

The water is recently melted snow so it is very cold. The west side is more shallow and has about 18-20 islands that are fun to explore. There are deer sometimes jumping between islands and there are eagle nests, osprey nests, so you can watch them raise their young each spring. Two marinas, one on the east side in Dillon and one in Frisco on the west side. It's a little over 5 miles across the lake between marinas. At it's deepest the water is about 240 feet deep. No water skiing or swimming allowed but it is a great lake for sail boats, speed boats, pontoons, canoes, and kayaks. And in the winter it is great for snowshoeing.

It really doesn't matter what activities you chose to do.If you do it around the lake you will have many photo opertunities that will have all your Facebook friends wishing they were with you. Biking on the path around the lake will reward you with beautiful photos as well as a great work out.I prefer going clockwise around the path, as there is one long climb from the southeast part of the lake to the summit.Amazing views awaits as your heart rate recovers, but a exillerating decent down to farmers corner awaits.I like to start out at the frisco marina or the dillon marina, so that I may enjoy a after ride beverage in style and comfort. Ow and if you can't make it around the lake there is a water taxi that runs between the two marinas.

They have a weekly free concert too. When we were here recently, we saw a bald eagle sitting in a dead tree along the frontage road between Frisco and the Dillon dam. Check it out. The bike trail around the lake is very nice too. I love this area and come here often.

We often visit Keystone during the winter but never stay on resort, way to expensive.Dillon offers reasonably prices condos only 5 mins drive away form Keystone resort. Many condos have view of the Lake/Reservoir, this if normally ices over in the winter, and yes it is thick enough to walk on. Kite boarding can be seen on the lake in the winter.Dillon has may places to eat if you don't want to cook, an 8 screen cinema, large grocery store and an outlet stores area just down the road at Silverthorn.Silverthorn also has a sports center with a good gym and swimming pool.

We enjoy boating but have had difficulty finding a decent spot since we moved to Denver. We have lived in Chicago and Minneapolis and are likely spoiled by the lakes and rivers there. But Lake Dillon provides a good spot for boating with outstanding views. The crowds are acceptable, even on weekends. We tow our boat from Denver and have learned to arrive early to ensure that there is a place to park the boat-trailer after launching. Dillon removed much of the previously available area for boat-trailer parking a couple years ago to facilitate expansion of a bike path. It was like they said, " we really don't want boaters' business here". But if you can arrive early enough to make sure you get a space, the views are worth the trip.

We took the Tenderfoot Mountain Trail. We started about 1 mile from the trailhead and followed the bike path. The folks riding bikes fly down the path so you have to be very carful if you have little ones with you. The bikers are friendly enough and make the calls, but it is still something you have to pay attention to. The Tenderfoot Mountain Trail itself is only walking. We saw a couple of eagles which was awesome and Dillon Reservoir is awesome all around. The views are amazing.

Because the weather was threatening we did not attempt to climb Quandary Peak, and the potholes kept us from McCullough Gulch, so we went to Dillon, parked at the Marina, and began hiking around the lake. We went as far as the dam, then turned back and went back to the Marinain the rain. The view were wonderful, and we felt some accomplishment in being able to hike and avoid being run over by all the cyclists. On to Frisco !

What a beautiful lake surrounded by incredible mountains. There are great places to hike, bike, and play.

Enjoyed taking family photos here. The views are awesome. We did also rent kayaks on the Frisco side marina and enjoyed kayaking a couple of hours. Would recommend calling ahead to reserve during the busy season. We didn't but if we had a larger group then we would have been in trouble. They have canoes as well. We did not go on a guided tour but didn't feel we needed that. In the morning the water was pretty calm. The water is cold and there is no swimming here. Other options included boat rentals or single person paddle boats.

Our family went to the lake for a family photo shoot for our reunion. Great place for pictures & a picnic. Not much shade though.

This is a great spot to take kids as they have playground with a lot to keep them busy. It's also near dining options and at times as life music in the band area.
