Ray guided our group around for two hours. It was a lovely ride through rolling, snowy hills and aspen trees. It's a gorgeous, sprawling property. Ray pointed out the tracks of foxes, weasels, porcupines, etc. Our group had a mix of people with a lot of riding experience and people with no riding experience. It's probably a better bet for those with no riding experience. Like most commercial trail riding outfits (Del's also a working ranch), this place has some horses that have soured on the whole thing. They plod along with their noses to the tails of the horses in front of them. Regardless, it's a pleasant two hours and afterwards, you're greeted with hot chocolate and cookies. If you have a ski helmet, it's not a bad idea to bring it and wear it, even thought that's not very cowboy!

This is by far the best terrain to enjoy a horseback ride. There was fresh powder and beautiful views from beginning to end, for a full two hours. Ray is a genuine Colorado Cowboy and I can't say enough about how comfortable and easy he made the adventure for myself and my two kids.

My family and Father have been on a couple of horseback riding experiences in the Steamboat area, and according to them, this is the best yet. This is the only experience that I have in the area, and I thought it was fantastic. From the time that we arrived until the time we left, they crew was very friendly and helpful. I know that looking at me, they were like crap, what horse do we want to punish today, but Scooter was a champ, and the rest of the horses were picked to match the skills of the riders. We opted for the 2 hour ride ( they offer 1/2 day, 2 hour, and 1 hour rides), and for our skill set that was probably about right. The ride was beautiful up the trails and through the Aspens with lookouts over the valley. Alley (not sure on spelling) was our guide, and made the experience what it was. She was very engaging, and answered all of our questions without rolling her eyes.The horses were fun to be around, there was my horse who liked to stop, my youngest daughters that followed extremely close, my wife's horse was a little cantankerous, and my oldest daughters who had to be the last in line. The ride ended right around the 2 hour mark, and we all climbed down with sore butts, and legs a little sore as well.They offer hats, helmets, and small bags for your water, and seemed to have horses for all skill levels. They do offer rides most of the year round even in the winter.I would highly recommend them for the ride, and if Alley is around, ask for her.

I normally don't go on horseback rides while on vacation since I have horses to ride at home. But I couldn't resist the scenery shown on the website! I was pleasantly surprised that although it was a nose to tail walk all the way - normal when taking out non-riders - the horse I had was obedient and would stay behind if asked, as well as sidestep on the trail when asked. It is a pleasure to ride well trained compliant horses on "tourist" rides!

The area is just gorgeous and green with beautiful wildflowers in bloom! We saw elk, deer, and cows. :) We really liked our horses (however very gassy - haha!) because they were just the right size for each of our family. It would have been nice to have moved a bit faster though for a little more excitement.

Beautiful weather for a two hour horse ride! The trail was wonderful, beautiful scenery. The horses loved the trail and were gentle to newbie riders. We were fortunate to see a large herd of elk! Amazing sight!! Our guide gave us a great lesson on how to ride, and from the back of the pack we heard some history of the ranch and stories of life at the ranch and how they manage the trail during the winter.

Ok guys, this is for the family or singles who love horses and nature. Hire a one-hour ride between November and March and you will be slowly moving through gentle rolling hills covered with pine, aspen and cottonwood groves. If the original trail is getting too deep, the owner bobcats a trail for you. The horses are sweet and sullen ( maybe too sullen for a cowboy) but very safe. The guide, Perk, is an endless source of information. His father, Ray, was involved in all kinds of ski training and competition and knew Buddy Werner and Billy Kid well. The stories are great.If you are lucky you may spot couples of fat grouses running uphill from you.Finish this dream ride with a cup of hot chocolate and cookies. Look for Michelle Sommerville who works there as well as at F.M. Light and Sons. She is also a wonderful ski instructor. Knowledgable and sweet.Enjoy half a day skiing and take the other half off the slope. Go hug a horse!

I am so happy I chose Del's Triangle 3 Ranch for my winter horseback ride through the mountain trails! They all were so wonderful!I hopped on a shuttle van from Steamboat Ski area to get to the ranch. First off, the ride there was amazing! I driver, Ray, I presume the elder of the ranch, was a wealth of knowledge with an amazing life history! It was fascinating to hear his stories and history with Steamboat. He was definitely a true cowboy. We arrived at the ranch and were greeted by Perk, the ranch owner, and his friendly Australian Shepherd dogs. They had plenty of warmer winter boots to loan to us and also helmets if we wanted one. We each got our own horse and took off on the trail, with the dogs leading the way, of course! The horses were friendly and very calm. No need for any fear! They took their time going over the snowy and icy trails. The trail ride takes you away from civilization almost completely. You ride through trees, uphill and see beautiful, crisp, snowy mountain views. Perk, our trail guide, even got off his horse at one time and took each of our pictures on our horse with our cameras. Great for a memory! When we returned to the ranch, we were offered hot chocolate and cookies. Everyone was so friendly!The overall experience was wonderful! It is very apparent that the employees of the ranch truly care about their horses and treat them very well. It was great to see the respect between the horses and the staff. They love their horses!I would highly recommend this trail ride to anyone that is seeking to escape the city and experience winter in the quiet silence of the mountains.Traveler's tips for the winter ride:-Wear warm clothes! Warm boots/shoes are needed!-Wear a hat and gloves. Snowpants are a good idea too-Bring sunglasses; it gets bright out there with the snow and sun-Bring your camera! You are allowed to take pictures while riding

We went out on a two hour ride with Megan Walker as our guide. She was a great source of info on the birds and animals in the area and we learned a lot, saw some deer and totally enjoyed her company. The scenery is breathtaking and the horses are very well cared for.

We Took The Half Day Ride And It Was Great. We Went In Mid August So We Didn't See Any Elk But We Did Sight Several Mule Deer. Our Guide Was Very Friendly And Knowledgeable. The Only Things That Would Have Made It Better Were A Couple Elk Sightings And A Trot Here And There. I Would Definitely Recommend It, Especially If You Have Children.

My husband and I had a superb two hour ride with Ray (a former Olympic ski jumper and all around athlete) into the aspen groves of the Colorado mountains. Our horses were bred, born, raised and trained on the ranch. All the horses and mules are in excellent condition, have great temperaments and are well schooled for trail riding. The scenery is gorgeous! We saw free range cattle, deer, chipmunks and lots of birds, but alas no elk. The cattle had recently been moved to a higher pasture in the forest and that may have made the elk move further up the mountain. Ray said this was only the second ride this summer that he had not seen elk. This was the first ride we've taken where we did not see any signs of civilization except in the far distance. It truly was a very peaceful ride.We would definitely recommend Del's ranch for any kind of riding. They have one hour, two hour, half day (including lunch) rides and pack trips. They even have winter rides through the forest. Their prices are reasonable considering what you get. There were six others who were going out for rides and we were broken up into three groups, that made for quite a nice ride. When we come back to Colorado again we will definitely ride with Del's.

Lovely ride, health, well cared for horses, knowledgeable staff, family-owned business. Overall, this was a great experience. I'm an experienced rider but I'd never ridden in such deep snow, or on trails where horses were actually stepping in the prints of those before them to stay on the established trail so, while it was single-file and walking all the way, this was an awesome new experience for me. The views were absolutely stunning! I definitely want to go back in the summer for a pack trip.

Awesome horseback riding through snow covered mountains. Beautiful, gently horses. Unbelievable, breathtaking views. Our guide was awesome. Ray told us some awesome stories and history of the 5th generation ranch. You don't want to miss visiting with these great folks. Highly, highly recommend this for all ages.

This family-run ranch is a delight! The horseback riding was phenomenol, and the guide was very personable and knowledgable! Take half a day and enjoy a true North Routt experience!

Del'sTriangle 3Ranch horseback ride was wonderful for our six year old grand daughter, my daughter and myself. Our grand daughter was much younger than the other children we saw coming and going but they gave her just the right horse! The trail was lovely going through aspen groves and reaching higher elevations to see the mountain vistas. Every staff person was excellent. We highly advise this ranch. For those who want to gallop over the countryside, this would not be the place although you can ask if they do those kinds of rides.
