Well worth the drive up.. I was a little confused at first, the sign said tremont institute... But was the road to take... Drive it to the end for breathtaking views right from the car.. There are hiking trails, but we don't hike so we just viewed from the car... Got out at the end and walked on the bridge to admire the beautiful water fall. Will go back

It is a gravel road and we did enjoy the quietness and tranquility of the area. We didn't make it to the end because we had horseback riding scheduled not far from here, but what we saw of it was a treat. Worth the drive. Just beautiful!

Spectacular Fall Foliage Viewing. Wonderful Waterfalls, Peaceful Hike. One of God's Best Creations!!

For the 2nd year in a row, we have camped in Townsend and visited the Tremont Area. The first visit, we hiked to Spruce Flats Falls. The trail is moderate, as there is some ascents and descents, but the falls is great and very few people. This last visit, we brought our mountain bikes. Tremont is one of the few places in the Smoky Mtns where you can ride your bike. The upper tremont road is packed gravel and runs beside the river the entire length of the road. It is a gradual uphill from beginning to end, so I drove to the end and let the kids ride the approx 5 miles downhill, they loved it. We also did a portion of the middle prong trail at the end of the road. It is an easy hike and you can see several cascades along the way. Be sure to visit the Tremont visitor center while you are there.

Just the drive along the winding gravel path known as Tremont Road is a wonderful experience itself. Around every turn is a great wooded view of the river with hundreds of great places to take pictures, climb on the rocks, cool your feet off in the water and to share picnics. You never know what kinds of critters will greet you and at the end of the road is a trail that leads to amazing views of cascading streams. The early history of the area reveals itself in the form of an old steel bridge and ingrained human curiosity leaves you wanting to learn more.

Wow - what a beautiful drive up the Middle Prong. Very few cars and the stream is thundering and beautiful. We didn't have time to get out and hike at the end of the road, but we will be back.

The entire drive along this well-maintained gravel road runs alongside the Middle Prong of Little River, with its mossy rocks, gorgeous cascades, and banks covered in rosebay rhododendron. Even on weekends, with Laurel Creek Road and Cades Cove Loop Road crowded with cars, this area sees far fewer visitors and is wonderfully serene.There are many pull-offs for a picnic or photo-op (take a portable table or eat on the tailgate - there are not cement tables along the route.) You'll see some hikers, some anglers, some folks dipping their toes in the river, and, if you're lucky, you'll see wildlife. There are a couple of small waterfalls viewable from the road, and there's a hiking trail leading to several waterfalls at the "end" of the road, where there is a sizable parking area.

This has become a regular stop (sometimes more than once) on my trips to the Smokies. It's a quiet area that (fortunately, to me) attracts few visitors. It's a long, winding gravel road that runs alongside the river. There are numerous places for great photographs of the area. The views are truly breathtaking when the water is up and moving along.I highly recommend a drive through the Tremont area on your next visit.

The views here are breath taking. This is an easy place to visit. You can stop off as you drive, or you can go for a hike. It's on the way to Cades Cove, so you can go here first to see the cascades and waterfalls without all of the traffic and people. The sound of the rushing water is so peaceful and there are plenty of places to pull off and walk around. I had my 76 year old mother with me, along with my kids. The range of ages was easily accommodated here. There is also a nice nature center that you can visit before you start driving too far in. We didn't make it all the way to the end of the 3 mile road, where I understand you can hike down into a beautiful waterfall, but we saw lots of wonderful things nonetheless.

Quiet, less traveled road with lots of pretty waterfalls, pull offs and access to the river. If you want to get away from the crowds, try this route.

I grew up visiting Cades Cove. I now spend more time on the side roads. There are many interesting sights through Tremont. Each time we've walked the trails; someone will tell us something to look for - old car, plane crash site, rocks that you can walk through. I don't recommend this for children - it's an easy walk, but more about the views and discoveries than entertainment.

You could spend all day in the Tremont area and not be bored. Of course,, beyond the Institute there are no bathrooms, even at the end of the road. There are lots of swimming holes and cascade after cascade are there, with a few almost roadside on the right side of the road. One particularly photogenic one is about marker 3 at a tiny bridge. This one is one of the few waterfalls what can take great photos midday, as can Spruce Flats Falls, which is about a mile or so past the end of the paved road on the left side. You can get there via the trail behind the Institute or you can ford the Middle Prong - but be very careful since this is swift water with lots of slick rocks. Photographers would be wise to bring a dry bag or Pelican case. Spruce Flats Falls has 5 levels from the Middle Prong and you have to be careful as you climb up the cliffs/boulders, but each level is worthy of photos. Great idea to bring trekking poles here. There is a nice waterfall to the left side of the bridge at the end of the road that you can access via a very short trail. It is not a swimming area due to the extremely swift water. This area is not "a one and done" kind of place because it changes so with each season and with varying amounts of rain. The spring greens are great as are the fall colors. Haven't been in the winter, but may rectify that.

This trail is relatively undiscovered by the masses with a hard surface that is easy to walk. It goes along the river and has some spectacular waterfalls, beautiful views and a slight incline for good exercise but not strenuous.

No matter what time of the year you go this is a great drive. There are many places to stop and picnic or dip you toes in the river. There are small waterfalls. Lots of color in the fall but beautiful year round!

The person working gave us excellent advice on a trail. Beautiful. A little tougher climb than I expect but beautiful waterfall.
