I priced a few horseback riding experiences and chose these guys. We made reservations and they said no problem if we need to change them. When we got there and met Ms Rhonda and Mr Josh, I knew we were in for a great time. Josh was our guide that day and he was very knowledgeable and fun to ride with. They selected great horses for our little girls to ride. We all had a blast and will most definitely be back next year except we will ride the half day instead of the 2 hour tour. The views were excellent! We can't wait for our next ride!!
The was my daughters' and husband's first horseback riding experience..and it had been several years for me. The guide was super friendly, knew the area well, and kept my youngest close to make sure she was comfortable the whole time. She even asked if she wanted to trot (she didn' t) and made sure her horse stayed slow through some of the declines they'd usually go faster on. The horses were in great shape, and the guide really knew the personalities of each. The crew at the stables was great too, great senses of humor and very helpful. They trusted us with the horses and the horses with us, which was comforting and a great experience. We all had a blast, even my husband who was reluctant and was only along because we made him come...he was actually talking about horseback riding again sometime!
After researching area stables, I decided to make an appointment for an hours ride. Had not ridden in years, so I approached it with a bit of anxiety though some of this was relieved when I called to make the appointment and talked with one of the guides. The horses all seem healthy and content though in just a bit of need of brushing. My guide was Rhonda and the choice of a horse for me was a perfect fit. I was the only rider at that time so I had the benefit of asking all the questions that were on my mind and could not have enjoyed the ride more. It is worth noting that tips are not included in the price of the ride so I would recommend having adequate money on hand for that purpose or be able to add it to your credit or debit card. I will definitely return for a longer ride.
We enjoyed the ride but our lady guide was a bit 'whip happy' with her "lazy" mare. She was forever kicking the mare on and using her reins as a whip. Bullied animals turn off to such abuse, and it is abuse. The mare went no faster when the lady stopped her nagging, so I'm guessing the rider needs a polite reminder that it is her that needs more training, not the mare. If the mare isn't right then find one that is, but please don't bully.Aside from that, all was pleasant. The animals are somewhat unkempt but have good weight and are sturdy. My review would have been 5 stars bar the bullying of the mare :o (
Before leaving I called and checked out reviews on several stables. I decided this one was the one we were going to try. I called a few days before and scheduled our time slot. My daughter who is 11 had Snowy. My 4 year old daughter and I had Magic. My husband had Blue. None of us had ever been on a horse before. Needless to say once I got on the horse I was scared to death. But once I got the hang of it I was just fine. You just have to relax and trust the horse. They do it many times a day. Each horse had its own personality which made us request the same horses the second time around. My daughter loved Snowy so much she wanted to take him home. Once we finished the the first ride the kids did nothing but talk about riding the horse. We surprised them the last day with another horse ride. Both rides were different. The views were breathtaking. It's a beautiful spot with lots of little obstacles that keep the slow pace ride exciting. I can insure you that every future trip we take to the area we will go back to Davy Crockett Riding Stables. It's not a tourist trap, it's just good old horseback riding in the mountains. When you schedule you just have to give your name and number of people and ages of people in your party. I would definitely recommend calling at least a day or two ahead. Great experience.
My family and I wanted a horseback ride away from the hustle and bustle of town. Davy Crockett Stables was perfect. We rode up and down hills, through the trees and it was so peaceful! If you are looking for more "touristy" things to do around a stable this is not the place. However, if you want a great ride with beautiful scenery through the Smoky Mountains, I highly suggest Davy Crockett Stables. The horses were great, even for my 7 year old daughter. Rhonda was a great guide.
This was my first time in east TN and my friend and I were looking forward to a relaxing weekend in the mountains. We just wanted to hike and see some wildlife. What better way to do that than on horseback? I must have read a thousand reviews about 7 or 8 stables in the area and this place had nothing but positives. For good reason! We rode for 1 1/2 hours with our guide Kelly. She was a great conversationalist! She put us on horses that fit our experience level. As she put it, she gave us something "with a little bite" and we weren't disappointed! My girl Sheba was just as sassy as I am and we got along great :) We are already planning our next trip around a half day or even and overnight ride. I highly recommend this stable!
We took the 1 hour ride and it was just my husband and myself on the ride. The horses are well trained, gentle and well taken care of. The ride was nice and we traveled back through the wooded area behind the stables. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a nice safe stable for a good trail ride.
Five stars for the riding experience, but the customer service and instruction were a big minus. We came here as first-time riders, not knowing what to expect. On the website, it said that walk-ins are welcome so we decided to just drive over there, as we were staying nearby. We were "greeted" by an extemely grumpy person, who later also turned out to be our guide. It soon became clear that walk-ins are NOT welcome. However, she murmured that we could get our one-hour ride in ten minutes. She then murmured the price and went on to charge us. All in all, she spoke very little and did not make us welcome at all.We sat on the table five minutes or so. She then came out and gave us a riding lesson. This was done in ca. 15 seconds. On the saddles we went, and then sallied forth on our horses. We felt very unconfortable, being clueless abour riding on horseback and next to no instructions what to do. However, everything turned out to be rather intuitive and easy, although we went over some pretty steep hills and rough terrain. The horses were really nice and towards the end of the ride, we sat confortably on our saddles! So, if you want to go there, call ahead and reserve and ride. But there are probably other stables nearby that have nicer persons working. I would not go back to Davy Crockett, although the horseback riding experience itself was nothint sort of awesome!
Nice ride, nice horses. Guide, Josh was personable, friendly, funny.Everyone that works there is friendly. Good safe, slow ride for the kids if you are thinking about it
I have always wanted to ride horses....never had the chance. But on this vacation, in my60's, i did and so glad we choose Davey Crockett Stables! The staff were friendly and helpful, they put me on a very gentle horse named "Blue" a Tennessee Walker, she took very good care of me.... I was instantly comfortable with her and the ride was AWESOME!!!!! Thank you to all at Davey Crockett Stables!!!! I would come back again!Mattawan, MI
Kelly was our guide and she was amazing - and a great conversationalist. Even though the trail was a bit muddy from some recent heavy rains, we had a great time.
My eleven year old son, boyfriend and I went for an hour. The guide was so sweet and personable. She was great with giving my son directions when he needed them. The trails were really neat and authentic trials right thru all the trees up and down. We really got the lead the horse rather than just "hold on". We even got to run with them for a short time in the field if we wanted to. That was a blast! Beautiful trail outside of all the hustle and bustle with a nice country drive to the stables. Great price with a military discount too!
The people were so nice. They make you feel welcome right away. The horses are well trained, and the trails are fun. Overall I really enjoyed riding here.
We took a family horse back ride last week when we were on vacation in the area last week. This was a wonderful experience for all of us, a very authentic trail ride through the forest. We had 9 people, ages 8-73 and everyone had a blast. Travis our guide was wonderful and a total sweetheart who had alot of personal knowledge about the area and the horses. The price was very reasonable and we did the hour and a half ride that was perfect. We would recommend this company again anytime!!
