Dead Horse Point State Park is so beautiful at all times of the day.We enjoyed hiking, and taking pictures of the amazing red rocks and the Colorado River gorge area. Many bicyclists were there as well. There are mant trails to choose from, and some areas designate separate hiking paths from biking paths. We could take our dog on leash. The park entry fee is reasonable and valid for three days. It is a place we have been to before, and hope to be able to visit again.
There are plenty of nice views here - there's an approximately 8 mile long option for a rim trail, or you can do shorter jaunts around the main viewpoints. Despite the proximity to Island in the Sky, the views are different here - it definitely overlooks a different set of landmarks. We camped here one night and the campgrounds were nice - decent bathroom/shower facilities, no real complaints! If you're up in the area and have some extra time and ten bucks, no reason to not stop by!
We did not spend a lot of time here, due to our timing, but it was absolutely beautiful and majestic. Well worth the visit.
One of the best maintained state parks I have ever been to. Also awesome views and great photo ops of the canyons, Colorado River and Potash Lakes. I actually enjoyed this park more than Canyonlands! Better accessibility and photo spots in my opinion- not to mention full bathrooms instead of pit toilets!
Incredible views, easy hike, so glad we finally stopped there after driving past it so many times - can't believe how much we were missing out on!
Traveled 4000 miles in 10 days. Started out at arches natl park in Moab and were blown away. Missed this state park because visibility was bad...too low a cloud cover. Left Moab and saw Zion (fabulous) on to Vegas, Sedona (beautiful but too nicely "done". Had time to get back to Moab and do Canyonlands and this park. OMG. It is up close and personal with Mother Nature. You drive them what seems to be the middle of nowhere until you stop first at this park. That is only the beginning of the most spectacular vistas and country we have ever seen...no we live in Washington state, known for its natural beauty. The trails are spectacular, especially grand rim. This is a must for the bucket list. We are going back again next year to see it again. May try the Grand Canyon again but honestly, this is the sure stop for us.
It's small, but was usually empty during my visits. Great views from high bluffs to rival Canyonlands farther down the road. More than anything, it's a place to get completely away from everyone else. I especially liked biking the entire Big Chief trail, nine miles of solitude. The big national parks near Moab are all great, but this little state park is a must for any visitor.
You have seen it in at least a dozen movies! I first visited this state park in 1962. At that time it was a dirt road leading to this incredibly scenic overview. I have been there at least 7-8 times. In reality it is just a beautiful drive leading to an oft photographed overlook. My most recent visit was in October 2014. Not much has changed other than paving the road in over 50 years of my travels. Well worth the drive to the top.
Loved this - well laid out - spectacular views from the paths - well organised and clearly looked after. worth a visit
After disappointment in Canyonlands visitor center(s) not being open, was glad that Dead Horse Point State Park was. I thought iti was definitely worth a visit. Not disappointed. Liked better than Canyonlands anyway. Nice visitor center. Helpful staff.
If you only have time for one viewpoint or bike ride, this should be it. Overlooking the entrance of the Grand Canyon, and Shafer Canyon or White Rim Trail. The new Big Chief ride is fun and easy enough for most mountain bikers.
We walked the trail from the visitor center out to Dead horse point. You can see the pot ash from there. Magnificent views and easy hike!!
There are wonderful views of all types of scenery, from the LaSal Mountains to the River. The canyonlands are spectacular. The Visitor Center has lots of great information as well as hiking trails around it. There are great trails along the rims and a beautiful campground. The Park has recently added three yurts away from the other area in a secluded area but with great views. This is an area where you can spend a few days and has amazing views.
Nice view and trails but not sure if its worth the fee unless you are going to spent the whole day there. I was only there for an hour and felt a little ripped off, so plan accordingly. The view is amazing if there are clouds in the sky or at sunset...but not so good on bright sunny days.
