A great educational farm-- they have many special events here. You can milk a cow, hold a chick, and tour the farm, looking at all the animals along the way. It is very scenic as well, and one of my favorite places to spend a sunny spring or summer day. You can look out over the vegetable plots and rolling hills that lead into forests-- could not be more beautiful!!! I would really suggest coming to one of their special events, as they are perfect for outdoorsy families. Since this is a part of the Delaware Nature Society, they can also refer you to other fantastic local nature programs. In the summer, they have wonderful camp programs where kids can cook using food fresh from the farm, help take care of animals, and enjoy farm crafts. Also a great counselor program for teens.
This is a great place for kids to learn about the basics of family farming - but really from a historical perspective. Farming today is very high tech and industrialized. This is small and approchable with a warm caring staff that have been there for years and years. They are fantastic with kids. Great camps too!
I went to Coverdale farm on an overcast Sunday in October for their annual Harvest Moon Festival with two children ages 6 and 11. There was a fee of $8 for adults and $6 for kids but since we got there an hour and a half before they were closing and probably because of the inclement weather, we got in for free! We all hand milked a cow, bottle fed a calf, held two adorable chicks of different ages and learned a little bit about each animal. We also touched a live snake and navigated through a fun corn maze. There were also tables with art projects that you could make if you paid an additional $1-$3. They had had turtle races, worm composting and a hawk watch among many other activities earlier in the day and also the day before. There was food for sale such as hamburgers, hotdogs, funnel cake, kettle corn, cotton candy and Woodside Farm Ice Cream. I will definitely go back next year on a sunny day and I'd recommend it for all ages.
