You can pay to enter the park area and take advantage of the activities, but there are several areas to pull off the road and take in the view. Its beautiful!
Went to the Shoshone Falls after reading how they were considered the Niagara Falls of the west. Between the low water and the construction on the Falls there wasn't a lot to see. Made a detour off the Interstate and (at least on the day we went) it was very disappointing.
We stopped here on our way to the west coast and I'm glad we did. The area we were at had a parking lot. We walked down a trail to different view points of the falls and also relaxed in the grass area that had tables. We didn't realize that there is a separate area we could have gone to get a better view of the falls but the free area was pretty nice. We also drove to Diercks Lake but since we had dogs, which they don't allow, we didn't stay too long. If you're in the area, check this nice scenic area out.
We enjoyed driving to the falls and walking around - We went during the evening and it was lovely. There is a nice grassy area - people were enjoying all the different aspects of this place.
This is well worth the trip..The falls are beautiful, we caught some pictures with rainbows of the falls.
Glad we paid a visit to these falls. They are huge and there is lots of viewing points. The price is quite cheap as you can go to multiple spots with it. We will have to come back again next time we are in the area.
Love going to the falls, it is never the same view. Rainbows are beautiful coming off the falls. The water is always changing depending on how much water is being released. Great place to have a picnic.
We went during the late fall/winter. The falls weren't at peak flow, but enjoyable nonetheless. Nice overlook and substantial parking. Picnic area.
This was very impressive , we were here Feb 19 and were told they would not be that full, as it was better in the spring with the snow melt, but I could not imagine it being any better. Well worth the trip.
This is beautiful site, very close to the highway with easy access to many perspectives! And a little history! Evil Knievel jump site is here also! Absolutely magnificent falls!
Been here before, it's beautiful when the water is flowing! Not so much to look at when the water is not flowing. Nice hiking trails too but not at this time of year.
Stop in the visitor center by the bridge over the Snake River and ask if the falls are running. If they are, take Falls Avenue to the west. Turn left at 3300 (there is a church on this corner). The park by the falls is very nice. There is a snack bar in the summer as well. You may also see Dierkes Lake which has a nice walking trail around it.
I have been to Shoshone Falls many times and it is very impressive in the spring (usually about April, when the snow is melting in the mountains and the irrigation water isn't all diverted into the canals yet). The weather is still a little cool but the water flow is much better. Later in the year is warmer and still worth spending the entry fee just to see the amazing height of the falls. There is also a park and a nice walking path going up onto the canyon rim.I also recommend nearby Dierke's Lake, included in the entry fee, with a nice park and hiking path around the lake (our family loves this hike!).
Just on the outskirts of town is this incredible natural wonder. Went late in the day, just before dark and thee was nobody at the entrance gate ...not surprising as it was a blustery cold day. Went to a paved viewing spot near the parking lot and took in the view which was beautiful. A watchout for visitors - it can be icy and slippery in the winter.
With the water levels lower than what they used to be it isn't the same. Yet when they let the water flow it can be a sight. They are renovating sections for the power plant so the whole thing isn't flowing.
