While there is no camping inside the park, the drive from nearby City of Rocks or Almo is easy. There are more climbs for beginner climbers than in The City.
Beautiful spot. The Ranch House was really nice - several family members stayed in it for a few days. All in all well kept property. Only down side - the man who works there - kind of like the custodian. He interfered rudely with many guests and with great frequency. He lurked around staring and vibing. He also spit on the ground a lot. Gross. He was dirty and unfriendly and frankly creepy. I had to ask him to stop talking to me after the third interaction.
No place like it! The new refuge is has a beautiful creek running through it and lots of willows. A great place for climbing or a weekend picnic!
We stopped here while visiting the City of Rocks. We were pleasantly surprised. We really enjoyed the short hikes we took.
The visitor center is the first place you'll want to stop before visiting the Park - they have maps, souvenirs, climbing supplies, etc. and the people at the center are so helpful and friendly.
We pulled into our pull-through spot with our 5th wheel, easy and level. We then inspected the restrooms & showers - to our delight they were first class clean! Met the park host who provided us plenty of local information. There are yurts and campsites as well. Checked out the Ranger Station for more info - well supplied. Hiked Castle Rocks. Family friendly with many levels of hiking, biking and climbing.
This park is part of the Idaho State Park network. Adequately maintained, quiet, nice separation between sites, nice forestation around sites.
We went rock climbing with expert courteous guides from the ranger -visitor station and had a blast. Very affordable and they provided guidance and professional equipment. The ranger gave real instruction and our party from the Netherlands (were there are no rocks to climb) had a great time and not even a skinned knee. The people at the visitors center could not have been more helpful and kind with lots of informative brochures and interesting exhibits in a lovingly restored old ranchhouse.
The lodge is set up for family reunions. Trails are easy, well-marked, and spectacular, and this is also a good place for horseback riding, as long as you get a map and have a lot of time.
Similar to the City of Rocks, but less crowded. Spectacular! Great climbing, challenging mountain bike trails, beautiful scenery, and archelogical sites.
Easy trails. We had a fun time. Strange and unique rock formations. wish they had water.
