Boating, swimming, and fishing are offered at this location. As it was Fall we just enjoyed the scenery on our visit. Good beach areas around the lake to sunbathe.
the staff at the visitor center , is great... a lot of info and plenty of maps, brochures and even things for the kids.. a great place to take beautiful photo's... plenty of parking... very safe
Spent Memorial Weekend at Freemen Creek Campground. Nearly every tent site has a water view and about half have water access, when the water is at level. I heard it's low late summer, but no one mentioned early summer. We walked down to the water to fish, which my husband and boys enjoyed. Well, the girls liked it, too. There is a nice newer playground structure near the swim area, but the water was way out. We rented a canoe for a couple hours which was fun, although we had to drag it about 100 yards to the water and carry it back up. I prefer this campground to the one at Lake Chacolet, at the southern tip of Lake CdA. I hope we can bring our boat when it's a bit warmer.
The Dworshak dam is amazing! We drove all around looking at different areas of the dam, and the best view of it was from the scenic overlook area. It is a huge dam!
No better way to spend a summer day, than on a boat at Dworshak. Best in early summer, as the water is very low in late summer and this spoils some of the experience.
It's a dam with calm, clean water where you can swim as long as you don't mind that it's deep. It even has floating party platforms where you can take a boat to land there and hang out for a while.
We went to the museum at the top of the dam. It was very interesting. Opportunities for camping, fishing and boating in the Reservoir.
Dworshak Dam is the 2nd tallest dam in the US. The visitor's center is very interesting. Unfortunately there is no tour of the inside of the dam.
Provided you like rustic beauty, natural wildlife, fishing and camping this is a place you will love. The folks at the visitor center are very helpful and watching the movie about the construction of the dam was very impressive. The view from the top of the 717 foot high dam was amazing when looking down to the power plant below on one side and the clam waters of the reservoir on the other side. The campground at Dent Acres is somewhat remote, but they have full hook ups and a great boat ramp and dock. We hope to return and stay longer next time.
In mid December we were the only visitors at the time. We watched 3 of their movies. Really good. The person staffing the visitor center was very friendly and helpful.
I was there as a little child and to this day I'm still amazed. My sister used to work there during the 70's.
Lots of recreational opportunities, especially boating. Nice campsites have easy access to lake.
Wonderful lake for boating and fishing. Wonderful camping sites all along the lake. The dam is a fascinating tour. Great to have such a beautiful lake right in our "back yard."
