我们十月十三日周末来来这里看红叶 不过今年天气冷的快 所以叶子红的早 似乎来晚了。不过还是很漂亮 在高点看湖 很不错。
Thanks to the groomed trails of the Mount Major Snowmobile Club, access is available by snowmobiles to the top of the mountain with gorgeous views! It was an easy climb with curved trails - a little narrow for two machines to pass but definitely do-able.It's also a great hike for any season!
Mount Major was yet another nice surprise on Alton Bay. Very nice hike even for those of us that are already "over the hill". The views from the top are breath taking. There are some spots that require a little extra muscle but once you're on top you'll find it worth the hike. I posted the route we took and there are several others you can alos do which do take longer if you have 4 or 5 hours to burn.
We started at 2:30pm taking Main Trail (blue) to the top. It was steady climbing with a mildly flat halfway up. Toward the top you may use your hands to get up the rocks but can be done by most ages. But these can be slippery when wet so pick a dry day. The views from top of Lake and trees were amazing but you'll have see for yourself.Took the red trail down. Lots of pine needles and rocks as well. It was a nice leisurely walk down and we were back at the lot around 4:30. The whole loop came to around 3 miles and is well worth it. So if you're in the lot facing away from road the blue and yellow trail start in the right. The red is toward the left. Once by the woods you'll see signs.
Hiked mount major a view weeks and ago and what a great hike it is! I've been hiking all over the country over the past few summers but didn't get out much in 2014 so I was pretty out of shape for this one. It got my heart racing and my breath going hard but it felt great. The views from the top are fantastic and we even got to see a great looking rainbow at the top of the mountain on this particular day! Definitely recommended for all ages and is it especially dog friendly.
This was a really great find. We enjoyed the beautiful views and moderately difficult hike. I was surprised by how busy it was in late September, but the trail was pretty wide, so it wasn't a problem. There is no porta potty at the bottom, so plan ahead!
Enjoyed a pre-wedding hike with guests on Mount Major. I was shocked by the crowds and number of people considering this is NOT a park but private property. There are several ways up the mountain and we took the shortest but most direct route (read that as more a climb than hike). As another reviewer states, it is a very rocky trail so please were proper foot gear. Got to the top of the trail but still not at the top spot. Short hike led us to the over view of Lake Winnipesaukee and the view is just breathtaking. Just no other word for it. Amazing amount of people at the top just drinking in the views and enjoying picnics. Took the much longer(but much easier)yellow trail down.
Easy to find on Rte 11 in Alton.Signs are posted. We took the blue trail up. It took us about 1 1/2 hours. The trail is rocky...so wear good hiking shoes! It gets steep in some parts, especially after about an hour. The trail becomes ledge, but you can take the side trail next to the ledge which is still steep and rock covered. This trail is suppose to have gradual steepness...but it seemed steep most of the way, until we took the orange trail down, which was very steep almost all the way down. Also, very rocky and root covered. It took us about an hour to get down. There is a yellow trail, which we did not take, but heard it was easier, except for a few streams to cross.Wear stretchy clothes, which I did not, so that you can stretch your legs when needed to climb the rocks.Saw lots of families, and kids as young as 4 doing the trail with help from their parents. Also, lots of dogs, panting away. The views at the top are breathtaking and well worth the climb. You can see Lake Winnipesaukee and the islands. Wish they had information at the top to let you know what you are looking at. Even if the trail is busy, people are very courteous and it is not a big deal. Parking is limited, but you can park on the road.
Sorry for the pun....but we had a blast! Might be a bit tough for toddlers and people with knee problems. We have neither, and enjoyed the hike up. It's a climb on certain trails, so it gets your heart pumping. The view is amazing, and we have great photos and memories.
We went on a Wednesday, and still had to park on the main road. But, we arrived later in the morning. Get here before 10 and you shouldn't have to park in the road. It's a popular hike, and a few ways to the top. The longer, Brook Trail (yellow) crosses a few minor streams near the bottom, and is not as steep as the shorter, Blue trail. Crossing these streams requires a bit of care in not getting your feet immersed. The Blue trail is quite steep and rocky near the top, and we had to put our hands down several times. Kids under 8 might have a tough time at the top of the Blue Trail. Sturdy shoes are highly recommended, as is a couple of bottles of water and some snacks for the top. It takes our group of 4 about three hours, round trip, but we go slow and spend a bit of time on the summit. Wet rocks and roots are slippery, and these trails are well worn. This hike is a very good workout, with magnificent panoramic views of Lake Winni from the top, Totally free exercise and entertainment.
Mount Major is an easy hike that leads you to a beautiful overlook of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Lakes Region of NH. The trail is very worn, so if it has rained, be sure to wear good boots as it does get slippery. Weekends and holidays means many, many people on the trail. If you can hike during the week, it is much more peaceful and enjoyable. The view from the top is spectacular! If you are lucky to hit it right, bring something to put the fresh, low-bush blueberries in that you can pick at the top. Definitely bring a lunch, but it is carry in/carry out.
Great workout! Blue trail is a bit challenging approaching the summit but the views are so worth it. Going down is a long easy walk. The views of Winnipesaukee are breathtaking. We did it in spring, but it must be even more beautiful in the fall. Good for kids, dogs, and all ages. Parking could be a bit of a problem but you will find a spot.
Such good fun, we took tge orange trail up and the yellow teail down. The view was beautiful. We went when it was a little windy but still had a fantastic day
Not too difficult climb and spectacular views of the mountains and Lake Winnepesaukee. beautiful anytime of year except dead of winter
A real nice walk on the trail to the top of Mount Winnipesaukee. Real nice place to take some fall foliage of the tree around the lake.
