Be sure to drive all the way through town to find the Tucumcari Trading Post. Gary, the owner is a charming host willing to barter to make sure you load up the treasures you're after. You'll find authentic memorabilia along with new items mixed in. A fun stop for the whole family!
If you like the Disney movie cars, then you have to drive down Route 66 through Tucumcari. Although a lot of businesses have closed, their is plenty to see. The Trading Post at the west end of town is a must! Tow Mater's '55 Ford Tow Truck sits out front ready to get your picture taken while sitting on it. The owner Gary can give you a tour of the business and tips about the town. A MUST STOP!
I grew up on route 66 and the Tucumcari Trading Post is an authentic stop representing the old highway. Gary's friendliness and helpfulness is a refreshing example of an era that is quickly passing away. This is a great place to stop, browse, have an interesting conversation and pick up a few items from the extensive collection. This is a must stop for anyone travelling I-40 in eastern New Mexico! BP
Must see stop on your Route 66 tour, great Memorabilia and Antiques - fantastic hospitality Gary will make you feel right at home with plenty of stories, it will be one of those places you will tell all your family and friends to visit.
I have already reviewed this wonderful interesting spot. Unfortunately I did not give it a 5 star rating which it clearly deserves. Lots of wonderful items, great friendly service....Love this place and will definitely be back. My sincere apologies for mistakenly giving a lower rating.
I go out of my way to stop at Tucumcari Trading Post and see Gary - his collection of antiques and collectibles for the home or the garage is nothing short of mind blowing! I always see something I want (and maybe even need) and by the slightest chance, if he does not have a particular item I am looking for, I know he will always keep it in the back of his head and try to locate it for me.This place is a MUST VISIT when you are in Tucumcari. The items alone throughout the property and inside are worth the time alone! Gary has a vast knowledge of all things collectible and can answer all of your questions!
Great place to visit and buy, many things , owner hospitality, especial place of Rote 66, you need to know .
Stopped in by chance while traveling Route 66. Gary the owner was a top bloke and would highly recommend anybody traveling to Tucumcari to call in. Great place to visit and purchase great buys!
We came across this place while driving down Route 66. That's the perfect store to find antiques and rare pieces, especially for collectors and passionates. Gary, the owner, was very friendly with us while we were having a stroll around his store, where we had the chance to find and buy nice souvenirs of the Historic Route.
My girlfriend and I happened upon this Diamond in the Rough just on the edge of Route 66 and it was awesome.Do not get confused by the outside, it is hard to see the entrance, GO IN and enjoy the step back in time from his mother-in-laws fur coat, to the cactus paint by number that is now hanging in my living room in Fort Worth Texas.Gary , we heart you!Jill Johnson n Rachel
On our way to Colorado we happened upon this little historical Route 66 gem.The entire shop was filled with amazing antiques and beautiful handmade jewelry,The owner was by far my favorite part of the shop. He not only made us feel very welcomed and at home, he also suggested an alternate route that we would have never found on our own. Absolutely worth the easy detour!!
This place is truly amazing! It was not what I was expecting from the looks of the outside and around the building. Don't get me wrong, LOTS of antiques, etc out there, but when Gary opened the door to the barn, WOW!!! Bet he has anything you want in and around there! Thanks for the nice surprise, Gary and company! We will be coming back to see you!
Gary's knowledge of Tucumcari and Route 66 is astonishing! Tucumcari Trading Post takes you back in time, with all his signs, gasoline memorabilia, and others items, too numerous to mention. Gary is a person that you can sit down with and talk with for hours. A true down to earth person, with his side kick Misty(his 4 legged friend), at his side. Gary makes you feel relaxed and can draw you into his stories. If you are ever traveling Route 66 stop at Tucumcari on the west side of town. Look for the windmill, and large Texaco sign. He will recommend places to stay, places to eat at or suggest others places for you to visit.

We came upon this amazing place on our trip out west. We love exploring flea markets and antique stores and this one has excellent displays and collections. Gary was very friendly and hospitable and when we are back in the area, it will be a definite stop for us.
