st. joseph apache mission church

St. Joseph's is a beautiful Catholic Church. This church has the Apache culture woven throughout the church and mass. The Apache drummers preforming with the Apache singing in there native language during the mass will take your breath away. I recommend Christmas Midnight Mass.It is the most Beautiful Mass, the drums , singing, Tee -Pee on the alter (nativity) Mary is portrayed as Apache Maiden. Promise, you'll never forget, and Christmas lives.

This is a church that was established in 1916, and the actual construction began in 1920. Father Albert Braun, OFB, began to build with the help of volunteers, other Friars, and architect friend Tony Leyva and in 1939 the church was considered complete. Over the next few decades, many additions and repairs have kept this beautiful church standing. It readily reflects the Apache community with its art and statues. The congregation is small (approx. 385), but when we attended, we saw perhaps 50 parishioners in attendance. It's a beautiful church with a strong Apache influence, and if you're one who appreciates beautifully hand built churches, this a nice church to visit.
