The Texas Civil War Museum in Ft Worth is great! We appreciated how it compared the artifacts of the union on the north wall with comparable confederate artifacts on the south wall so you could easily see both. We also enjoyed how most artifacts memorialized the individual who wore/used the item. They have many original flags, artillery, guns, and a great variety. I especially enjoyed the 4 decade display of women's clothing, with an interesting display of bustles.
Equal treatment and lots cf weapons, uniforms and period cloths.Price is very reasonable ...........................
Don't let the building exterior fool you, there is an amazing museum inside. An excellent collection of Civil War artifacts in museum quality condition. It has equal collections of Union and Confederate Armies. Well worth a visit, but not much else in the area.
My husband and I loved visiting the museum. We brought our 8 year old. She enjoyed the word search and scavenger hunt they provided, and really enjoyed the display of women's and children's dresses, shoes, and bonnets. Tons of amazing artifacts and photos. Amazing displays of all the weapons and various artillery used! I really enjoyed all the things the history books don't include! Next time, I will return without our 2 year old!!
For the enthusiast in all of us. Well worth the price of admission. It is a self supporting facility. Civil war memorabilia was awesome.
So awesome to see the amount of historical treasures they have here. If you love history you will enjoy what they exhibit here. Just from the clothes to the knowledge behind everything. Super cool little building with tons to offer.
We learned a lot about the civil war...very informative and covers both Union and Confederate sides well. Very well laid out...Confederate artifacts are on the south; Union on the North side so it is easy to compare and contrast what each side had. Make sure to watch the movie...very well done and exhibits will mean more if you watch it first. The civil war re-enactor guides were friendly and available to answer questions. We had two young teens with us and this was a highlight of our trip for both the adults and kids.
Take the time to visit this great museum. The price is right, Yankees and Rebs are both honored and respected. I will go back with all "outa towners". Fascinating and informative.
What can I say but the museum was very informative and accurate of it's displays. The staff are wonderful and very friendly.
This museum is as good as anyone in the country. I have been to the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg PA and it of the same quality. We were fortunate to be there when they had demonstrations of weapons and soldiers dressed in both Union and Confederate Soldiers. This museum should not be missed!
Great place to visit. They had a lot of fascinating items there- civil war uniforms, weapons, instruments, medical instruments, and my favorite, tons of victorian gowns.
This museum is for the history buff or anyone interested in learning more about the Civil War & Texas' involvement. It has an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and I especially enjoyed seeing the Victorian Ladies' Gown Collection. There are also a lot of guns, cannons, etc. it is good that we have these things for the future generations.
First visit. Folks up front seemed nice. Lots of old guns and clothing...very cool. No wonder we lost the war....we didn't make enough guns! Will go back. You can buy actual civil war bullets!
As a Civil War historian, I enjoy museums with this theme. The Texas Civil War Museum does a great job telling the story of Texans during the war, and it comes from a different perspective than that of my Northern upbringing. There are many very interesting artifacts there, and I even saw a sword that had been presented to an officer in the regiment that had been raised in my hometown in Illinois. A completely unexpected find! There is a large gift shop, if you're into that. The staff is friendly and helpful, as well.
I would give this more but the lady at the front was rude and the young guy next to her was plaing on his phone. They didnt say welcome..thank you..nothing. Now all I can think about is that...hard to enjoy the museum :(
