Many visitors enter Oak Point through the main entrance off Los Rios Blvd. They enjoy the pavilion, lake, and trails there, but don't know about the trails south of Rowlett Creek. To really appreciate the preserve, experience both sides. For the easiest access to the trails on the south, use the Amphitheater entrance off Spring Creek Parkway just east of Jupiter Road. (Look for the LED sign.) Park in the large lot adjacent to the trailhead area which is tucked back in the trees. All of the natural surface trails are fun to walk. Some trails have exposed tree roots and fallen trees across them. Some run down into the creek bottom and could be a bit of a challenge. All of that just adds to the fun. My husband and I are in our late 60s and have no problem with any of the trails. As a frequent hiker there, I ask that you read the posted rules at the trailhead. No horses or bikes. Dogs on leads are allowed, but for the safety of your pet, don't let it off the leash. And of course, please don't litter.
We lived in Plano for years and just drove by. This time we were in town visiting friends and relatives, and we stopped to just to walk around since the gate was open. I was surprised how nice it is back behind the woods, and now regret we didn't take advantage of this place when we lived in Plano.
Lots of parking, some parts still under construction, clean toilets, nice wooded walking trails, huge clean lake with fishing, good exercise, some scenic views. Well worth a visit, its less crowded than Arbor Hills and did I mention more parking?
IT was peaceful and nice people walking and running and biking around. Alternate trails throughout the preserve are great and moderate incline. I'd go every day if I could!
Oak Point Nature preserve boasts of being the largest nature preserve in Plano with around 800 acres. It is a safe and quiet place for individuals, couples, and families to spend their mornings, evenings, and weekends with nature. You could enjoy a variety of activities at the Oak Point Nature preserve, such as - Picnics, Bicycling, Walking, Jogging, and/or Playing Frisbee. I consider myself very lucky to live within walking distance from this place. For more information, I recommend visiting the City of Plano web page for Oak Point Nature Preserve using the following hyperlink - http://www.plano.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/23
This is nice when the wild flowers are out in the spring. A good place to fly a kite or to picnic. Seems to be a safe area for families
Great place to walk and exercise among nature, easy to get to and large parking lot. Many different trails so you can go every weekend and not get bored walking the same route.
Great park!! At outset it seems like the other parks in Plano but its paved trail is wider than others-- a pleasant surprise. Then you realize the beautiful woodsy interior foot paths - one which follows along the creek. They are so peaceful and a cool temp under the canopy of trees. Lovely and kinda romantic for a couple - you would never know you were right in Plano. True to its nature preserve moniker, we passed an active bee hive off one path and enjoyed seeing so many beautiful wildflowers. Benches and picnic tables around the lake seem perfectly placed for picnics, relaxing and just enjoying. This is a much nicer park than Arbor Hills and less crowded.
I would like to talk to the lady that said they checked the noise level and it was in acceptable levels. I would like for her to come to my house and listen to my front windows rattle, the pictures on my walls in the dining room and office are also rattling. Putting up a fence around protected areas is like spitting into the wind! Cars parked on park land bring with them all kinds of pollutants. I love music BUT, I don't think the animals that live in the park are happy. Most animals at the park sleep by day and hunt by night. The person(s) who came up with this idea should be FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't have to visit or pay for the festival because I can hear it in my house.
With a large paved path and walking trails through the woods there are plenty of places to check out. Large picnic area and open fields for gathering. After walking almost 2 miles we barely brushed the surface with all the places to visit. Will have to go back again.
I've lived in this area for quite some time, but never visited here until a few days ago. I arrived here at 7 am to go birding with about a dozen people. We saw a variety of birds as well as some mallards and a green heron in the water. We saw quite a few people out bicycling, walking their dogs, etc.--but it wasn't as crowded as Arbor Hills on the west side of town (which I thought was a good thing). There are lots of trails--both paved and unpaved. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the park was so large. Some of our party had trouble finding the entrance to the park. I would strongly advise taking Jupiter Road north, crossing spring Creek, and then make a right on Lost Rios. You will then see the park entrance on your right. I think this is an ideal entrance because there are also restrooms and picnic tables at this location, and access to some good trails. I will definitely be visiting this park more frequently.
Oak Point is basically and extension of Bob Woodruff, which is great because it makes the park seem even bigger when you use the trails going under Parker Rd. The Nature Observation area at the North end is particularly nice. I would love to see it expanded, especially since it is built on a wetland.
Great place to get away for the afternoon. Several trails to pick from but they are all easy. Biking is probably the best way to get around the trails as they are all paved though a little rough in sections.
Oak Point Part is a wooded retreat located just a mile from super busy highway 75 in East Plano. Dense wood lands and a meandering creek gives the fell of being far away from the city. Enjoy this close in Nature Preserve at your leasure.
The two interconnected parks of Oak Point Park and Bob Woodruff Park combine to form the best park in the city of Plano. The scenery of the park is nice, although it's nothing special. What makes this place great though is the length of the trails going through the park. As a competitive runner, this area is my favorite place to do 13 mile or longer long runs. Most runners would agree with me that this park is a great place to run. This assertion is shown by the fact that there is a race hosted at Oak Point Park almost every weekend. This park earns four stars and not five stars only because the scenery leaves something to be desired.
