My wife and I took our family from out of town during spring break. While we didn't visit the caverns due to time limits, our kids used the sluice, went in the zip lines and the maze. They had a fun time and I was impressed at how clean everything was. Will definitely go back for some underground exploring
Our family enjoyed this very much. We found the caves very beautiful and this is a very easy way to access them. Everything on the Discovery Tour is lit well and there are hand rails. Some areas are a steep walk but it wasn't slippery. It is wet, warm and drippy so go slow and take care walking. Wear sturdy shoes. There is a flight of stairs towards the end so if you have trouble this is something to consider. This is an enjoyable and safe activity for families. Staff is very available for questions and information.
Get there early since it gets busy in the afternoons. Ziplines where just ok and lines can be long wait for such a short zipline.
Great place to bring kids to do outdoors activities on the climbing tower, maze and zip line. The caverns are fantastic.
It is magical to walk in those caverns. If you are in San antonio, this is only 40 minutes ride and well worth itIt takes one hour to walk through and go early as it is a marvel that is very popular with families and all kind of people
Great family fun with just the right mix of adventure and safety. The caverns were suprisingly impressive. We found the guides to be knowledgeable and insightful. The Canopy Challenge - ropes course and zip line was just the right mix of fun, adventure and safety. Lots of fun! Well worth the stop.
This is a great place to check out when visiting San Antonio. Just a 30 min drive and your right on top of some spectacular caverns just waiting to be explored! We went on the discovery tour that was self guided. At certain intervals there was an informative guide that talked about the origin, formation, history or geological facts about what we were seeing. It was nice to move at your own pace, stay a little longer when the view was amazing or ask questions that the guides are happy answer. Like others were saying the path is well groomed and even though it's underground, steep in some places and damp, every precaution is taken to make this a safe and enjoyable experience. There are hand rails, lighting and gripping surfaces on parts of the path all done in a tactful way so not to take away from the natural beauty and awe of being in such an amazing place!Highly recommend for almost everyone!
This was a quick trip for San Antonio, and a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon. Kind of pricey, but would still recommend. The formations are very cool. Be sure to wear sturdy tennis shoes...It is wet inside!
We (a group of women in our late 30s) came to visit the cave on a rainy weekend in March. We had a great time and enjoyed it. In my opinion, this is a great activity to do with or without kids. We arrived on the first day of Spring Break, and so we learned that on "busy days," the Discovery Tour (which is the one we signed up for) is self-guided. We loved having a self-guided tour, as it allowed us to go at our own pace, and you weren't stuck behind a group. Inside the cave, it's humid, warm, and damp. Come dressed for the weather and definitely wear sneakers or some other type of practical shoe with a sole that grips well. We didn't find the trail slick at all, even though it was damp. The trail has been paved with some type of "grippy" surface, which makes it pretty easy to get around. The Discovery Tour took us about 30-45 minutes, and the formations we saw were pretty good. The pictures on here are a good representation of what you'll see. There are also other activities on-site if you have kids with you -- we didn't try any of the other activities, but it looked like fun. If you're a military family, they also offer complimentary passes to active duty military members in the group, which we found very generous. Bottom line -- great activity.
