For the person that said "dump" your significant other...shame on you! Lol.These cars are magnificent!! Their beauty can't be described, even on paper!! The history alone is fascinating, especially the Tucker, and almost anyone would enjoy looking at them, even grandkids. Six of us went, from 62 to 9 years old and every one of us loved it!!! I can't wait to go back on my next vacation! !
This is a nice refreshing change from "hill country stuff". The car collection was very good and the facilities were well taken care of.
I was staying in Austin at the time when I visited here and I have to say it's a must-see for anyone driving through the San Marcos area. It's not a massive garage, but I'd estimate it houses around a hundred vehicles that range from the early 1920s through to the late 1960s. They're all beautifully kept and clearly loved, with a multitude of bits of nostalgic memorabilia positioned around to set the scene (replicas of some of this can be bought in the gift shop). The cars are packed in pretty tightly and most of them are cordoned off, so you can't really walk round them or look in them. However, I can absolutely understand why; they're enormous vehicles in a very limited space and, after all, this is someone's private collection that they don't want to be damaged. If it were mine, I'd rope it off too!The staff are lovely too. There were practically tumbleweeds rolling through when I visited, but everyone was still enthusiastic and helpful, including one chap (who may have been the owner?) who stopped me to ask why I was there because "young ladies don't usually visit by themselves". We had a bit of a chat, nice bloke.Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping by.Good points: big collection, friendly staff.Bad points: limited view.
On our way from San Antonio we had spotted this museum on the Internet. Just a short diversion from the I-35. Fantastic display of vehicles, mostly cars, from the early 19 hundreds up until the 60's. All displayed with lots of room to look inside each one, the whole place was beautifully presented and the cars nice and shiny. Most definetly worth a couple of hours of anyone's time.Highly recommended.
So many beautifully restored cars. Presentation of cars is well done and museum is clean and full of so many smaller history auto memorabilia. Especially loved the Bat mobile! Would stop and visit again.
We love to view car collections and this one didn't disappoint. The cars are in amazing condition and the chrome is so shiny! Thank you for preserving our past!
Several couples that travel together were visiting Bastrop recently. The gals get massages while the guys golf. The weather was rainy and cold so I suggested this to the guys. I think everyone figured this would be hoky, but they wound up going on and on about the cars that were there. They really enjoyed it.
This was an amazing establishment and well put together museum of classic cars. It is a self-guided tour and it is well laid out! I was even impressed with the pedal cars! Don't forget to to look up while you're there!I've been to many car museums with my son, and this one definitely topped the list of our favorites! Be sure to look up!!!Bathrooms clean. Lots of parking! Great job!Enjoy your time visiting this museum!
Great museum of old cars. Clean and beautiful cars. Lots of Coke collectables too! 30 minute self tour or longer if you read everything. Friendly personnel. Clean bathrooms.
Dump your significant other at one of the outlet malls and head over to Dick's Garage for a couple of hours. It's a nice car museum. Very clean. Well lighted. Cars are not crowded together, most cars can be viewed up close from the front and the sides. Good description of each car clearly posted. Easily kill a couple of hours here.
It brings back a lot of memories, seeing the cars we dated in, or drove when we were teens; and there are lots of older classics, Auburns, Cords, Dusenbergs. It's well worth the time to walk through the collection.
Surprising group of extremely collectible vehicles, very well maintained and nicely displayed. Great value for a tour.
Beautifully restored classic cars and bikes. I loved it! Highly recommend!! Cute little shop, too. It was easy to find and free parking. San Marcos is a lovely town with lots to do and see.
Went on a weekend just to see the Tucker and it was worth it! The museum has very friendly staff and is set up nicely with an open flow direction. Parking is free and would suggest an hour to an hour and a half to explore
The cars on display are absolutely beautiful and remind you of times gone by. It's a wonderful piece of history.
