We went to Cheatham Street for a concert. As fatmac said, if you don't get you probably never will. This not your socialite kind of place, but the ambiance is unique. The lead backup singer's bus broke down and she was using the ladies room as a dressing room, which afforded an opportunity for my wife to engage in a conversation with her. This may be the only place I have ever been that has gutters and downspouts indoors! Seriously, they have made leak catchers of plastic sheeting routed to gutters inside. We were there on a rainy night, so we appreciated the makeshift raincatchers. The acoustics are good and we got good seats. The particular concert we went to was non smoking- another big plus.

George Strait got his start here, keep this in mind. It's a real Texas honky tonk and it's a dive bar by most definitions. The "crowds" are small, the music is awesome, they have some really awesome craft beers on tap and it's cheap!

if you get it, you get it...if you don't, then don't come to San Marcos, it will be lost on you...the smell of stagnant smoke and spilled beer in the 15 year old industrial knap carpet is a unique experience that is just that, an experience.I had the luxury of frequenting CSW and it's exactly what you want it to be: a rich, storied shrine to a music era that has all but passed...no playing pool on acoustic nights, quiet room only...it's for listening, not hearing an absolute must for any "blood-on-the-strings" music enthusiast...not for the faint of heart, as they only sell canned beer and accept only cash...but they do have limes...you'll love it

You can come by anytime and get your beer in a mason jar and listen to some great music. You really need to come if you are into the Texas music scene, cheatham has been a launching venue for some real heavy hitters

All I can say is George has come a long way considering that he started he. We didn't even stay long enough to have a drink.

This place should have a historical marker. George Strait got his start here (with Ace in the Hole). Willie and Waylon have played and partied here. Sleazy Charlie had his way with more coeds than most frat boys dare lie about. Many a young college student's diploma dreams ended here. This is where Dave S. posted his straight F grade reports from SWT. They were toasted by many. A lot of hippies learned to drink here (for better or worse). San Martians love this place. Keep on truckin' Kent.
